It's almost September! I know many of you are anxious for Fall, but I'm hanging on to Summer for as long as I can! I'm not ready for cold and I hate to see the flowers fade.
This weekend I wandered around the yard to see what was blooming.
Here's the gate at the side yard. The hosta have gotten so big this year.
These chives are growing along the walkway when you go through the gate. They are one of my favorites, they always make me think of little purple fireworks.
In the back corner of the yard, is this area Bob has filled with grasses and phlox.
Next to it is a row of Rose of Sharon bushes. They are different colors - this purple, light pink, a mauve color and white and they look so pretty all together.
Here's another Rose of Sharon bud, in pale pink. It looks almost like a rose bud.
And here is that same flower, opened up the next morning.
We've made it to the other side of the yard. The building you see here is Bob's workshop. The little tree is a hydrangea tree. It's so full of flowers this year. The flowers start pure white and turn an antique rose color. They hang on, even into the winter. I've taken pictures of the flowers with snow piled on top of them in the middle of the winter.
Here's one of the flowers. You can see the pink starting to show up.
One last look at the back yard, standing near the hydrangea tree.
Thanks for making it through to the end!
Each and every flower is absolutely gorgeous! I’ll bet your yard is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour yard is wonderful, so full of treasures. I love the rustic bench, and the beautiful gate. And all the flowr beds! The Phlox is my favorite, so beautiful. Many years ago, a lady lived in a big house a few blocks away. She had a stunning garden, and allowed people to come in and tour around it. Yours reminds me of it. Everthing is just perfect, like a miniature Botanical Garden.
ReplyDeleteMorning glories are among my favorites. Some years ago, I tried growing moon flowers, which only open supposedly in the evening, and have a fragrance, but unfortunately I had no luck with them. I had no idea there were hydrangea trees, the blooms in it are lively. I too am not looking forward to the colder months, my osteoarthritis tends to worsen with the cold and damp.
ReplyDeleteSuch a perfect paradise created...
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful yard!
ReplyDeleteSo fun and beautiful
ReplyDeleteYour yard is Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteOur yard looks like a burned out silo...straw from all the triple digit heat.
Texas is no fun in the Summertime.
hughugs
Our Morning Glories and Rose of Sharon are really taking off now...and like you I'm holding on to summer!!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite is the hydrangea tree:) Just amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour yard and gardens are like a little paradise!!!
ReplyDeleteA hydrangea tree?? Amazing!!
Too bad about the zinnias not coming up. I was just thinking I want to plant some next year after seeing someone's pictures of them the other day.
My favorite pictures are of your gate and your bench.
Things looking great in your garden. Beautiful blooms.
ReplyDeleteI'm in no rush for fall either. Just taking each day and enjoying it. Time goes much too fast as it is without wishing any of it away. :)
Oh my! Your yard and flowers so so beautiful! I think y'all both have green thumbs. I'm with you on the seasons, we of course don't get the kind of winter that you guys do, but I'll be glad when it cools off some. The A/C runs constantly. Not for me, I'm not liking being cold LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tour of your gorgeous yard, Mari!
xoxo
Your yard is so beautiful. It must bring you such joy. I'm not looking forward to summer ending but I have to admit that the cooler weather has been nice. Our summer was uncharacteristically hot this year... many days our temps were higher than those of our daughter who lives in Virginia... and we live an hour from the Canadian border!
ReplyDeleteEverything in your gardens is growing beautifully, and I especially love the sedum. I have the same variety of sedum and it is just barely beginning to show a bit of pink on the tops.
ReplyDeleteNext year, I will split the sedum and move some of it around the borders a bit more.
I have dreamed of a gorgeous hydrangea bush forever! I have one lonely little hydrangea that is hanging on. Hopefully next year I will get a few blossoms on my hydrangea...*my fingers are crossed*...

Just beautiful. My yard is dry and starting to get messy. The sunflowers are just about done -
ReplyDeleteYour yard is so green and lush.
I love your garden. Your yard is so pretty. I love all the trees. It is way too hot for some flowers. My roses are doing okay, but my plumerias are not doing well in this heat. We will stay hot through October. There are not a lot of tall share trees in the city where I live. We did plant a pepper tree that does well but only shades the grass. We should have plated it in the backyard!
ReplyDeleteYour yard is always beautiful, Mari. HGTV or Gardens & Guns worthy!! Thanks for the tour! xo
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful, Mari. And I have always loved that garden gate leading to your backyard. You answered a question for me that I had asked Carroll just a few days ago. I've been seeing a lot of the hydrangea trees in peoples yards this year, but I didn't know what the name was. Now I do! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! The photos of your flowers are beautiful. I do love fall! Really love. But, I must admit I will miss the bright green around here!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful backyard you have! I love all the flowers!
ReplyDeleteoh Mari - your gardens are so beautiful!! You and Bob do an impeccable job of keeping it so pretty and I love the way you've planted things. I LOVE that garden gate door. I need to put something like that somewhere around here. I love the idea of growing something that would grow up and over it over time. Thanks for sharing your late summer beauty. I promise not to throw too much Fall in your face. Lol 😉 xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are most beautiful. I will be a little sad when the bitter cold arrives. Thanks always for sharing something to make me smile. HUGS & LOVE to you and yours
ReplyDeleteYour yard must be amazing. So many beautiful, colorful flowers. (The pictures of them are beautiful too.)
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing yard. All the flowers are beautiful. I'm like you, I just hate to see summer go. You and Bob must work really hard to keep such a beautiful yard.
ReplyDeleteyour yard is so lovely! Uncle Bob and you do such a wonderful job taking care of it and making it pretty :)
ReplyDeleteUgh such a glut of beauty, Mari! That hydrangea tree! I have never seen anything like that! Stunning and breathtaking. I love the tall grasses over by the bench. I know they sound mesmerizing with the wind going through them. Keep my front porch seat ready! xoxo
