A Day in my Life, June

I saw something on Facebook that said "How can it be June?  Yesterday was January 1!"  I feel the same way, but here June is.
As usual, I took photos throughout the day, and here is how I spent the first day of the month.

7:45 am - I have just pulled out of my driveway and am on my way to work.  It's a little cloudy, and the temp is 62 degrees.

At the corner, the neighbors chickens are out in the yard, as usual.

8 am - You know how I like the back roads.  I drive this route most every day and I think it beats a highway every time!

8:15am - I arrive at work, put my lunch away and get things ready at my desk.  We start at 8:30, but I like to get there a little early and get organized.
This board is next to my chair.  I have all the doctors schedules for the week (Which facilities they will be in on which day), lab draw info for each facility and a sheet that has each doctors license number and prescription numbers - things I frequently need.
As you can see, I also have pictures of my cuties and some art work from them.

On this day, my job was nurse follow up.  This involves getting faxes from all the facilities.  There are lots of reasons they send faxes - questions on medications, questions from families, falls, skin tears, sicknesses...  Each thing needs to be written up into an encounter on the computerized chart and sent to their doctor.  The doctor then replies to me and I send back orders, call the facility to update and call family members.
Each person in the office has a job like that for the day - it can be prescriptions, labs, or what is called the inbasket, which  involves sending out referrals to specialists, hospice, home care, getting paperwork or other assorted jobs,
Along with that, we answer the phones.  Somedays the phones seem to ring non-stop! We get some cranky calls - some family members that we all dread talking to.  We get calls from facilities, home care nurses, hospice nurses and often the patients.  Even though we don't see the patients in person, we get to know them and they will often call and ask for one of us by name.  On this day, one of the patients called and asked the nurse who answered to come and help her to the bathroom.  She was sure we were just down the hall and couldn't imagine why we couldn't come and help!
At one point I was on the phone and our office manager said - I need your camera - look what's at our window!

It was this deer, trying to get a little treat of bird seed.

When they got too close to the window, it took off.

We each use a notebook to write things down as we talk, and then cross it off when whatever they called about it taken care of.  We also end up on hold quite often, and I tend to doodle at those times, because I'm not good at just waiting!

Here's my stack of faxes and orders at the end of the day, ready to go into the shredder.

I left about 5:05.

This is my Dad's house.  It's about 12-13 minutes from my work and pretty much on my way home.  He's been having heart issues again and is retaining fluid, so I've been stopping most every day as I go home.  I weigh him, check his vitals, lungs and swelling.  He has an appointment with the heart doctor this week and is scheduled for a heart cath next week.

6pm - about halfway home I spotted this herd of cows in the field.

I got home about 6:15.  Bob had warmed up some pulled pork which was a quick but yummy supper.

After supper, I started a load of laundry.

Bob and I sat out on the porch for a little bit.  It was 68 degrees and a nice night to relax out there.
Then I came in and finished laundry and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Thanks for sharing June 1 with me!

  1. Don't think I have ever seen an all black chicken. One would have to be very coordinated and organized to do your job!! And patient as well.

  2. That deer! Wow I'd make sure my desk would face the window when I'm on hold with the phone calls. 😊

Your day seems to be a lot smoother with this "new" job than the old one!!!

Hope your father will be okay

  4. Love all the green but of course all that snow in the winter accounts for it. Your job entails a lot of responsibility and you handle it well. Loved those chicken and how fun to spot the deer.

  5. What a nice June 1st. I also get excited when I see deer, or just about any wildlife even snakes, and we live in the boonies where it happens often. It's fun to watch God's creation out doing what they were made to do. It's gotten too hot, humid and with biting flies to sit outside here in Southeast Georgia. We save those precious moments for Fall, Winter, and Spring. Then it's nice.
All your photos are wonderful. Y'all live in a pretty area.
    Blessings. xx

  8. So nice to be able to sit outside and relax at the end of the day, isn't it? I used to doodle all over my notes when I was on hold too! I got pretty good at making 3D squares and Olympic circles!

  11. I am late getting to posts but didn't want to miss this one from you! I enjoyed spending your day with you and just want to say THANK YOU for the work you and all nurses do for your patients. Each of you is a blessing to so many. I was struck by all the green in your first picture and remember how stark it has looked in previous posts before Spring sprung!! :) xo

  12. I'm sorry to hear about your dad's health issues. I hope he's feeling well soon, but I'm sure it's a huge comfort, for you both, that you're so close by and have the skills to evaluate him. PS- you live in the loveliest place, backroads, barns, cows and black chickens! Fabulous.
