What's been happening here...

You probably all recognize this picture.  It's been in the news way too much this year!
Yes - that is the covid 19 virus.

Most of you know that I'm a nurse in a skilled nursing facility.  We've been so thankful that our building has avoided covid for this whole year!  However, this past week, it made it's way in.  A few weeks ago, one of our nurses worked and was fine, but that night she got sick and tested positive the next day.
We've been wearing N95 masks, but it doesn't always protect you.  Most people have been vaccinated but that doesn't always protect you either!
A little over a week later, our first resident tested positive and since then, there have been several others.  A few days after the residents tested positive, several staff members started getting sick.
Thankfully, none of our staff or residents have been critically ill.
I have been telling Bob to stay far from me at home, as I figured it was just a matter of time until I tested positive.  When you work with people who are confused, it's hard to keep an arms length away. I had to help another staff member dress someone who was positive, and she was fighting and spitting at us, so gowns and masks don't always do the job!
Anyway, I've been testing daily and on Friday, my test came up positive.  I was feeling fine, but had to go home.  Unfortunately, Bob also had to leave work because he lives with me.
I now have a low grade temp, headache and cough.  I'm also quite tired, but I've had worse illnesses before.  We'll see what the next week brings.

When I left work, I packed up a bunch of my folders, notebooks and rolodex so I could try to keep up with things!  This is my work area for now, all that's missing is my computer.  (And for those of you who have been telling me to rest - Jenny, Diana, Rose, Bonnie - I'm doing that too!) They also sent me home with some rapid tests so I could keep an eye on Bob.  So far he tests negtive.
And that's what's happening in my corner of the world this week!

  2. Oh Mari! I'm so sorry for you but I guess it was only a matter of time given your job. I hope your symptoms stay on the milder side, that you get enough rest and recover quickly. Hopefully Bob stays well too. Take care.

  7. Oh boy! I hope you don't get much worse than what you're feeling right now. My office went an entire year without an outbreak and it happened back in April and 9 people ended up with it. I hope that you feel better soon and that Bob can avoid getting it. Take care!

  8. Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry to hear you got the covid virus. I hope you feel better soon and that your husband doesn't get it. Unbelievable how easily the virus spreads. I'm just curious... Did you get vaccinated with Moderna or Pfizer?

  9. Hi Mari. Most of our seniors here in Utah, like 85% have been vaccinated, so at least from what we are hearing on the news, facilities like the one where you work, are largely Covid free here. I am so sorry that you ended up with Covid. I hope that you recover quickly and don't have any lingering effects.

  10. For those who asked, the vaccination our facility recieved was the Moderna. However, some of our residents who took it before they came to us got Pfizer.

  12. The covid jabs aren’t protection, people I know fully vaccinated months ago are catching it.

  13. Just when we think we have gotten over the edge. Glad you are not experiencing some of the awful symptoms that can reign with it but rest is essential.

  15. Oh, good grief! I hope this thing passes you by. Thank you for your dedication to helping others who can not help themselves. When Steve and I had "it" we stayed vertical at all times. Slept in the recliner, drank lots of Coca Cola and nibbled on Saltines. I had a terrible fever and cough that seemed to go on and on. It feels like forever, but it eventually clears up. Then you're immune. Praying this will pass quickly and the next news is good. Sending love and prayers for healing. xx

  21. Oh, Mari, I am so sorry to read this. Your staff was doing so well keeping the virus at bay. Keeping you all in my prayers for a speedy recovery! Take care and get that rest that everyone is suggesting!! There really is no rhyme or reason with COVID. Why Joe and not me? We went everywhere together. No rhyme or reason. xo

  22. Both of my sons work at Care facilities. One got it and the other has not. One got the vaccine and the other has not.

Our county here in California has very few cases. It's almost back to normal ...well almost. The Gov says we can go mask-free after June 15.

You take care and I hope your husband doesn't get it. Most likely he will but then again, you never know about someone's immunity.

  23. I had it at the beginning with a person coming back from China Xmas 2019 she was hospitalised in China and I managed with my husband who is GP
Not to go to hospital it took two weeks and two weeks and two weeks to recover. My husband did not get it we have been very careful.
I hope you’ll be better soon.

  24. So sorry!! Hope it passes quickly. So over this virus but the persistent bugger continue to rear it's ugly head ☹ We continue to live carefully to protect our granddaughter with health concerns....your post reminds me that it's still important.

  25. Mari, you've been in my thoughts and prayers since I read this yesterday morning. Bless you for putting yourself in harm's way for the sake of caring for your residents. I'm really sorry you have tested positive. I pray that your experience with the virus will continue to be mild and that Bob will remain virus-free. And that your nursing home will be able to stay ahead of it and get rid of it. It was so devastating last September when the virus hit the little retirement home where Grandma Mary lived. Lord, hear our cries!!

  26. Oh no, I'm so sorry to read this. How frustrating that it happened now when you all had managed to stay safe for a whole year.
Just said a prayer for the Lord to bless you with a speedy recovery, and that He would protect Bob from catching it.
I have not been very good about keeping up with my blog reading because life has been a bit overwhelming, but I'm glad I didn't miss this post.

  28. I am so sorry.

Wonder if you yourself, got the so-called-vaccine. I know that not all health care works do want to do so.

Husband may not get it. Our son/granddaughter next door, had it. Rest of the family (wife and 3 sons) did not. All at home. Grand daughter doing her work from home, and siblings doing schooling at home. Plus mom and dad, at home work.

    Gentle hugs..

  29. Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it's a quick case and no one else in your family gets it. Feel good...and yes, you should rest!

  30. Oh no!! As you know, we've all had the rounds here too. Thankfully, nothing too serious. Prayers you will feel fine soon (& that Bob doesn't get it!). I'm finally fully vaccinated and both of my kiddos had their first shots. Hopefully vaccinations will continue to a big degree and we can wipe this darn virus off the earth! πŸ™
