I think I mentioned in passing this summer that we were having a porch built onto our house. It's something we've always wanted, and something we've been trying to do for the past two years.
However, contractors are in huge demand in this area. There is so much building going on, that finding someone to do a smaller job seems about impossible
Early this summer, Bob talked to the builder who built his brothers house last year, and he agreed to the job. Still - it's been a long process. Between waiting for him, and then all the other people we needed (cement laying, roofers, window replacement...) we reached December with most of it done, but still not complete.
Here's some pictures of different stages to show you what's been happening.
Here's our house last summer before anything happened.Progress being made!
After this roofers came and re-roofed the whole house. We had a new front window installed and a new door put in. Someone else came and redid the gutter system.
Then the builder came back and put up new siding on the front, put cedar roofing on the porch and wrapped the beams with cedar.
This is what it's looking like now. Its not done, but the rest has to wait until Spring. The rest of the house will be painted to match the new siding on the front. The pillars on the porch will have stonework applied on the bottom and the rest of the wood has to be finished. The landscaping has to be redone and the yard is a mess with lots of ruts from big trucks running over it! The doors have to be painted. Last but not least - we need some rocking chairs on that porch!
Wow, what a long process. But it's going to look beautiful when it's all done.
ReplyDeleteOur house looks a lot like yours, so now I can see how it would look like with a porch! We don't have one, and I sure would love one just like yours! Let us see when you get the chairs and anything else! Some hanging plants would be nice, too.
ReplyDeleteThat will be a really nice porch. I love all the trees you have. Love the snow too! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI can picture you both in your rocking chairs!!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great addition Mari. Love it and what a bonus being able to sit in the rocking chairs and relax. Glad its so far on now.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great improvement and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteA great addition to your house and it will up the value as well. Now to find those rocking chairs!
ReplyDeleteLooking good...cant wait to see the finished product. It is always fun to change things up!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome! You will get much enjoyment out of it! My husband built a deck on our little manufactured house a year ago and we have sat on it every day possible since then!
ReplyDeleteWhat a long process you have had to endure. But it is going to be worth it and you are going to really enjoy it. I know because several years ago we built a front porch and I love sitting in my wicker rocker watching the birds, sipping a cup of something and just watching the world go by. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteMari, I love it! What color is the siding? What type of stone are you using for the porch columns? Soooo exciting. You work so hard. You deserve a little rockin!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing transformation!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt is looking so good! Bet you can't wait for spring to get here. I'm telling you, there is nothing like having a porch to sit on. You've got to get those rocking chairs...might as well go ahead and get two extra for those sweet girls. Hope to see a picture of you all.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMari! What a great transformation! It looks right from HGTV!! I love the changes and I also envy front porches!! Our carport is our front porch here, which is better than none at all at our old house. It is beautiful! Keep us posted with the spring finishes and those rocking chairs!! xo
ReplyDeleteSusan - the siding is dark gray, the stone work will be different shades of light gray. We're looking forward to the rocking!
ReplyDeleteWhen it’s all done it will look great. I like the idea of the rocking chairs......
ReplyDeleteThis is FANTASTIC!!!! I feel so sorry for people without porches! You will just LOVE it, especially with some rocking chairs!!
ReplyDeleteIt may seem like it is taking too long but the work looks like it's coming along very well. Come Spring you will be so happy with the finished product. It is look great and the new porch will make such a difference. When I was growing up all the houses had a porch and when you have a snowy winter it really helps.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And I love your home. My grandmother had a home like yours (she lived in Kalamazoo).
ReplyDeleteOh Mari - I see the vision and I love it!! I can't wait to see it all done. It will be beautiful 😍
ReplyDeleteYay! Yes and I need to be IN one of those rocking chairs! I know it's a long haul but wow, the work that's been done is beautiful! Spring will be here before you know it! xoxo
