We have a tradition this time of year, before school starts. I take the girls out for a little shopping. We try to get a pair of shoes and an outfit. We go out for lunch and ride the Merry go round at the mall. This year, things are a little different. None of the rides are working at the mall, the stores at the mall make you wait to go inside, and we can't even eat inside at McDonalds which is the kids usual choice. So, it was a simpler day, but still fun!
We went to a restaurant that is known for their grilled cheese sandwiches. The girls were checking out the menu here.
Shopping was interesting. Alaina is such a oldest child... Ruby kept finding things and asking if we could get them. Alaina kept telling her, "no Ruby, we don't need that", or Ruby, we have enough"!
Even when I told Ruby she could get a little squishy ball, Alaina didn't want anything for herself. She ended up getting a book for Uncle Andrew and Aunt Heather's baby.
We were successful in our other shopping and got some shoes and clothes.
As I told you, Alaina didn't want to get anything for herself, but she wanted to get this book for Uncle Andrew and Aunt Heathers baby. So we did - and Ruby was happy to hold it for the picture. :)
Then, since we couldn't do fun things at the mall, we went to a sunflower field.
We got to walk in and pick our own flowers and cut them.

The girls are beautiful! What a fun time you gave them, despite the Covid! This is an outing that they will always remember. It is always so much fun doing things with the grandcildren! Hey, you don't look old enough to be a grandma!
ReplyDeleteThose darling girls keep getting more grown up. Where does the time go? I remember when Ruby was a baby, even then though I recall Alaina always striving to be a big girl
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it was a good memory-making day. The girls chose cute outfits and booties, too! I love the sunflower field - what a fun thing to do with the girls. Even better than walking around in a mall!
ReplyDeleteI wondered how the back to school shopping was going to go this year, smiles. Always a joy to see them, Mari. Have a beautiful day, friend. smiles
ReplyDeleteGlad you found alternatives and had a fun day. Love the girls freckles:) and their shoes and outfits were just perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! I so enjoy seeing all the ways the girls show their distinctive personalities !
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet family. Wonderful photos. I'm a huge fan of Giant Sunflowers. Usually plant them but not this year. Next year I will 'cause I miss seeing them in the yard. God bless.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun day for you and the girls! I love their outfits and the boots... good choices! We have seven grands and it would be hard to take them school shopping so we have an "End of Summer Bash" in August and we give them each a bag of school supplies from their grade level lists. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition even if you had to change things up a bit, it looked as though everyone was having fun! These are memories they will have for the rest of their lives.
ReplyDeleteIt is so fun that you take the girls for a pre-school shopping trip! They are so sweet! I enjoy watching them grow up and mature. Thanks for sharing them with us, Mari!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun day for the. Public schools have not opened up out here. Do your grands live close to you?
ReplyDeletewhat a perfect day! cute boots for two cute girls! that cone?...I'd like to see what a large one would be!! even tho no mall rides, the sunflower farm is a terrfic choice I think! Mari...you're the best grandma
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you both! I loved seeing your wedding pics. I always look forward to your school trip each fall with the girls. I love the photo of them with their mom and the sunflowers. Wishing you a great day. Mildred
ReplyDeleteBeautiful girls, and it sounds like you had a fun day with them even if it was a different tyoe of school trip than usual.
ReplyDeleteI love grilled cheese sandwiches. And that small ice cream cone looks huge. Wonder how big a medium or a large would be, LOL.
The flowers they picked for their mom are so pretty.
Its so lovely that you have a tradition you share with the grandchildren they always look so happy with you. The girls outfits are lovely their very lucky to have you x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time you had. I just LOVED reading your comments and seeing the pictures. These days with them are so very special for your all.
ReplyDeleteWell you all sure made the most of the situation! Those grilled cheese sandwiches look fantastic! And I love the girls' boots. They're going to look so sharp. Ruby sure does love life. And Alaina is the responsible one but that's okay too. She could write and illustrate her own book for Andrew and Heather's baby, with all of her artistic talent! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThey sure do love their special times with Grandma - they are making so many great memories!
