The week that was...

Last week was Bosses Day, and I thought you might like seeing a few fun things we did for our Administrator and Director of Nursing.  We so appreciate both of them and they enjoyed these fun little tokens.

This little container is filled with paper clips.  The tag on the top says "You hold the pieces together."

This one is filled with M&M's.  The tag on this one says "Thanks for being m & m, marvelous and magnificent!"

This one has York Peppermint Patties.  The tag says "For your enjoy-mint.  Thanks for your encourage-mint, commit-mint, invest-mint, involve-mint."

These were fun and were easy to put together.

The other thing going on last week was flu shots.  This is a big deal in long term care facilities, getting consents signed by all the guardians and residents, giving the shots and then documenting them.

I went back in to work on Monday evening and gave almost all the residents their shots.  A few had received them already and a few refuse them.  After they are given, there is so much documentation!  It needs to be put into a preventative health file on the computer, into a vaccine book at the facility and then into a State of Mich website, including date, lot number, type of vaccine, site...  so it takes quite a bit of time.  I worked on this much of the week.

But Friday was a day for more shots.  It was the day to do the employee vaccines.  I try to do a few things to make it a little more fun than just coming to my office and getting poked.

I buy candy so they can have a treat, and they all like chocolate!

I also get fun band-aides.  I had 3 different types - minions, emoji's and mickey mouse.  The staff members always laugh at this.

Here's the desk - set up with consents, vaccine information, alcohol wipes, candy, band-aides and the shots.
I ended up giving 124 shots last week.  I'll be doing more this week, for employees that couldn't make it in and for residents who didn't have their consents turned in on time.  I'll also be doing documentation for the employees.
It's always a big relief to have this done, and I'm close!

  1. Flu shots! So important. I have had one nearly every year since the mid-1970s. I am happy to say (knock wood) that I have never had the flu. I sure hope the vaccine works there so you don't have an outbreak this winter. I would take a snickers bar!! We got ours at Publix. They give a $10 gift card with each flu shot!! Glad you a nearly done with all of the documentation!!

  2. Wow! That's a lot of shots! I didn't realize there was so much documentation to go along with the shots. Hubby and I will get ours next week.

  3. You sound like a very fun and creative person. Love the bandaid box, and those gifts, with their attached sentiments are great. I'm sure they brought smiles to everyone you gave one to.

  5. Never thought about how important it is to get flu shots at health care facilities before or how involved it would be. I would be glad it is over too. Loved the cute Band-Aids:)

  6. I love those cute and creative gifts for your boss. How kind of you to buy cute band-aids and candy bars to make getting a flu shot a little more pleasant. We got our shots about 2 weeks ago.

  7. Oh my gosh, what a piece of work! I'm sure you ARE glad it's over for a year. Like the idea of the band aids. (A stone on the highway flew up into the windshield the other day...just a small pit (t hoght of putting a band aid on it)

  8. Now that's a whole lot of shots!! You make things so fun!

I just had my flu shot today at my 6-month checkup, but I didn't get any candy. Maybe I'll come out to Michigan to get mine next year, haha!

  9. Don't shoot me, Mari! I've never had a flu shot and don't plan to. I'll take a Three Musketeers and a minion bandaid just in case, though. xoxo

  10. So many shots, and such a lot of documentation, Mari! You 'done good'.

I have to call and make an appointment for mine; however, you know even getting one last year I ended up in hospital twice. ugh :)

  11. You certainly think of everything! I think those little things make it a little easier for the patient. My daughter had two shots on Friday and at 19 she was still excited to get a Hello Kitty and Strawberry Shortcake band aid!!

  12. What clever ideas! You are so good at what you do - I can just tell. 😉 It is a lot of work and so important too. Love that you all find the way to have fun with each other and the residents too.

  13. I had to give consent for my mother to have a flu jab. I could tell the manger of the home has a difficult job getting everyone to sign the forms before they can go ahead.
