We have friends at church who have a little land and a few animals. They don't have a full fledged farm, but call their place the Farmette. We stopped by last week so Bob could help Travis with a project he's working on.
Here's one of their barns, and it has a great story! It was built in the 1800's and the part that sticks out in the front was actually where the family that built it lived! They added the area in the back for the animals.
When the door broke, Travis built this sliding quilt door from reclaimed lumber he had found in another barn.
Here's another view of the barn.
This is the other barn on the property. It's used as a work shop and storage area now.
The goats came out to see what we were doing.
Aren't they cute?
There were also chickens roaming around. They have rabbits too, but I didn't get any photos of them.
I grew up on a dairy farm; lots of cows and chickens, and enjoyed visiting this smaller version!
Those Nubian goats are so strange looking! That's what Joe's client has. The long ears and weird eyes... but very cute (and aggressive)! The "quilt" door looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the word, Farmette....ratther like what we have in GA.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! Love the history. Goats are a lot of fun to watch. Hope you have a nice start to the week.
ReplyDeleteOkay laugh if you want . . . We call our little acre our farm and the only animal we have is our little dog, LOL. We have a big garden and we live just outside of town on a country road. I truly enjoyed your post and especially love the sliding quilt door, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love that word Farmette. I also love the barn door. We are in serious discussions to get back to farm living or as I say simple living. smiles
ReplyDeleteThis makes me long for over home. Those goats are so cute. I remember at one time an uncle had them. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt door. How clever, and sweet.
xoxo

ReplyDeleteFarmette?? I think that's the cutest word I've ever heard and as a suburban girl who's always dreamed of being a little more country, it sounds like the perfect farm for me!!
