Nikki came along to spend the weekend here, so I was looking for something fun for us to do. I came up with a train ride near us. It's an old train with cars nearly 100 years old!
Everyone who runs this train is a volunteer. This conductor was the cutest guy. We had fun talking to him.
Inside the train - a door into another car, old firefighting equipment and our tickets,
They had vintage luggage. and even some music on the trip. There was a guy singing old songs and playing harmonica, which made us feel like we had stepped back in time.
Along the way we saw:
corn fields...
trees...
a cemetery...
and lots of farms!
At one point, we had to stop while the moved the engine for the return trip. Several of us got out to watch the train hook up.
This is the brake man signaling the engineer to hook up.
Here's me and Nikki at the end of the ride. We had a fun time!
Nice!! Sure looks like a good time! Love the pics!
ReplyDeleteCompletely charming! TG and I took an "old" train ride once, in the mountains of Tennessee. It was pretty great. And what a beautiful day! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat fun, it must have been a real experience
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very fun outing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip for the two of you. Some 20 years ago, we did something similar with my parents. Fun memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool thing for you girls to do! I love the picture of you together!
ReplyDeleteLike looking back in time!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos and it looks like fun!!! smiles
ReplyDeleteHow fun...I think a train ride would be so great. There is a North Ga Railroad in Blue Ridge Ga where you can take a train ride in the fall and see the leaves. I am hoping we can do that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun thing to do together, loved the old luggage and watching the hook up. Thanks for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteOh, you found the perfect thing to do . . . I love trains and the countryside views were splendid. Like you said, stepping back in time:)
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun for you two! Hearing about trains always reminds me of Dad when he'd talk about how when he was a teenager, he would 'hop' a train to visit his dad in Detroit. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it was fun for all!
xoxo
What a fun way to spend some time with your daughter-in-law! I love to ride old trains.
ReplyDeleteThat would be so fun!! Just watching all the work involved to make it a safe trip for everyone... well, just a wonderful way to spend a day together. (And personally, air shows are fun too...but, see one you've seen 'em all]
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun. I really wish there was something like this around here, I would be on that train in a minute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! I love riding old trains; there's so much scope for the imagination in them. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to go on the train ride!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had a very enjoyable time, and you are so cute! :)

This looks so fun.
ReplyDeleteI saw your link on Sandra's blog (Diary of a Stay at Home Mom) and the title of your blog intrigued me because I have a picture blog with a similar title (The Splendor of God's Brushstrokes in My Little Corner of the World). I had been away from Blogland for a while, but now I'm back and looking for some new blog friends since it seems like most of my old ones are no longer here. Hope you will stop by and say hello.
Glad you ladies had fun! Looks like there was a lot to see.
