Bob's workplace decided this past Christmas to wait to have their Christmas party until January, so their employees didn't have to try to fit another party into the mix that often occurs in December. The party was this past Saturday night. It was held at a local restaurant, and the decision to hold it later meant the attendance was really good.
The decorations were so cute! Bob works for True Value Hardware, and each table had a strip of this paper they use to wrap windows or screens they've repaired. The centerpiece was a tree trunk circle, with an old True Value toy truck on it, life savers and wrist bands that said True Value and Well Done on them.
They also had trees made with the same paper.
Here's a few of the little trucks. So cute!
One thing they did was to show a video they made of each the employees talking about what they liked about their job. This was Bob's part on it. The general consensus from most of them was that they like the people. He really is blessed by the wonderful people he works with and for!
Along with a great meal, there were a bunch of games. There were guessing games - each table had a container full of different items, and we had to try to guess the amount of each one. Can you believe I won from one table and tied with someone else on another table?
There was also a sticker under a chair at each table, and I got that one too! That allowed me to spin a wheel and I got a restaurant gift certificate from it.
They drew names to play Family Feud and my name was drawn for that too. The funny thing was that Bob's name was also drawn to play against my team. His team won!
Several people were recognized for their years of working there, and one was Bob.
Here's his recognition award for 20 years!
The staff always collect money to buy a gift for the manager of the store. This year they commissioned Bob to do a carving of him, and here he is right after he opened it.
Here's the carving. Chad is a great guy, does all kind of things and is always running to rescue someone or help them out. So, Bob carved him ripping his shirt open, with a Superman t-shirt underneath. Chad is also a Christian who depends on the Lord, so the plaque says Phil 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Chad really liked it.
It was a fun evening!
Sounds like you had a good time at the party. My son owns a restaurant/bar and he always has their holiday party in January. I love the carving your husband did of his boss. He's a pretty talented guy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have it after the rush of the Christmas holidays. Bet it was lots more fun and it sure looks like it. The carving was perfect. Glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lucky night! Your husband sure is talented.
ReplyDeleteYes, that does look like a fun work party. Glad you had such a nice time.
ReplyDeleteLove the model trucks! What a great idea to have a party after Christmas when everything is a still flat and depressing after all the celebrations. Looks like you all had a fun time.
ReplyDeleteEverything about this party looks amazing. I like waiting until some of the hoopla surrounding a holiday is past. Sounds like you and your hubby made out pretty good that night!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have the party in January!! The decorations were great and I just know Bob's store manager will cherish that carving for the rest of his life! Your hubby is so talented... but you know that! Thanks for sharing the fun!! You should have stopped for a lottery ticket on your way home, Mari! You had a very lucky night!!
ReplyDeleteA great idea to wait until January...gave everyone something to look forward to in the New Year. Mari, you asked about Vonna. She does wonderful finishing for people and every cross stitcher would enjoy having just one Vonna finish in her collection. You can find her blog on my blog roll...She is the Twisted Sticher. .
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that the company makes a special time to recognize the people that make it happen, the workers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun filled evening you and Bob had, Mari! That is wonderful. And how blessed Bob is to have a Christian for his boss. Love the carving he did for the manager! And YOU...well, what can we say to the woman who won most of the prizes? lol I'm happy for you. I seldom ever win a prize!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome times ten thousand! At least! First, I love the table decorations. Were you in on that? Because the originality and freshness of that smacks of Maribeth, in my opinion! The trucks are DARLING. And then the carving of/for Chad -- oh my soul! In addition to being unreal creative and professional, Bob's work is so witty and meaningful. Having been immortalized in a Bob Bruins By His Hands carving my own self, I can attest to how special and unique an experience that is. As I've many times remarked about you and your job at the nursing home, True Value is fortunate to have Bob on their team. And he's fortunate to have such a great job and great boss, with a great company. Congratulations to Bob and no I'm not surprised, Mari, that you won big at the party! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have it after the hustle and bustle of the holidays!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great party. Bob definitely has a God given talent!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun party! I miss having work parties. Dick's place of employment never has one ever. We were so spoiled by the big, fun banquets his employer down home used to have. And then in the summer they would take everyone to Hershey Park for the day and feed us too. My staff used to have fun parties too, usually in February. Those were the days......
ReplyDeleteBob's carving is amazing!! So much talent!
Parties in the winter are just the best! The decorations were perfect and the carving for Chad was great! It is so wonderful to have a Christian at the head. I always enjoy the videos this group puts on.
