Scurry's of squirrels and warrens of rabbits!

This is our backyard.  It looks quite peaceful and empty, right?

If you look closer, you'll see a few visitors!

Our yard has been especially busy with squirrels lately.  We have a maple tree that's been dropping all sorts of seed pods and the squirrels are loving it!  The other day I came home and Bob said there was a "flock" of squirrels out there!  We knew that wasn't really the right term, so I looked it up and it's actually a scurry.  Don't you love that?  It describes them well.  They scurry all over the yard, up and down the trees and across the branches.  We had brown squirrels, smaller black squirrels and very small red squirrels.  They're fun to watch.

We also have some rabbits.  They aren't as fun to watch, because they don't move a lot.  They like to say around and bask in the sunshine.  Right now they are just eating grass and clover, but sometimes they nibble flowers which makes Bob slightly cranky!

There are several of them, but one of them loves to sit in this little patch of clover.
In other trivia - tame groups of rabbits are called herds, but wild rabbit groups are warrens.  Not near as fun as scurry's!

  2. We have loads of rabbits in our garden and they really do cause a great deal of damage. They dig up plants and eat buds and poop over everything! They've even chewed through a wooden gate. But they are quite pretty to look at.

  3. Well, I learned something new...scurry. We have a lot of squirrels but very few rabbits. Squirrels are great entertainment for our dog and cats (only thru the windows). I wish you a nice new week.

  4. I like learning the group family names of animals. Except I DON'T like a group of crows...'murder'. Who came up with that?

    Beautiful sunlight in your yard.

  5. There does seem to be lots of squirrels around this year and they are fun to watch as they stay so busy. Havent seen any rabbits yet, but am sure they will show up in the garden for a 'snack'. Scurry describes the squirrles to a 't'.

  8. I'm so jealous, smiles. Our German Shep. keeps all things out of our backyard, except for the birds, he allows those, lol. Have a beautiful day friend. smiles

  9. Your yard does make for a beautiful playground for squirrels and rabbits! We actually have lots of rabbits here in Mas Verde. I see more rabbits than squirrels. I agree that scurry is more fun than warren!

  10. A scurry of squirrels. That fits perfect. We've had lots of very young grey squirrels around lately. You are right, they are fun to watch. I did not know the term for bunches of rabbits, so then, we have "warrens" of rabbits this year. Never seen anything like it. I enjoyed this post.

  12. Sure reminds me a whole lot of my backyard too. ;) I've been keeping an eye on the bunnies, though, to stay away from my flowers. Lol

  13. We haven't had one rabbit in our yard this year. That is okay with me since they love to eat the edges of my hosta. We've had a squirrel digging in our flower pots and messing things up a bit.

  14. Awwwww, they're cute! I love the black squirrels. We don't have those here. Scurries of squirrels sounds appropriate because they do get around. Out in our big front oak, they chase each other incessantly. I think it's adorable, and I love to see a bunny too. xoxo
