I know a lot of you have been having a snowy or at least a very cold winter. That's certainly been the case here. This past week our church was cancelled - which never happens - and school was closed Monday, Tuesday and Friday. It just keeps snowing!
Here's Bob snow blowing again! He clears it out and it fills back up...
It doesn't show too well here, but there was quite a bit of snow in the road as I went to work on this morning. We had gotten another 7 inches of snow the afternoon and night before.
Another reason the schools have closed and why I am ready for Spring is the flu. It's been a terrible flu season with the Type A influenza. We've had several people admitted with it, needing to recover as they've gotten very ill.
This past weekend I was called in to work because of a Norovirus outbreak, which is the GI flu. This is a miserable one to deal with in our situation - trying to keep residents apart from each other so they don't pass it on and like anything else in the healthcare field it creates so much paper work! We are currently closed to admissions because of this and are not supposed to have any visitors. Of course with so many of our residents sick, the staff is now getting sick too. I'm going in to work at 3 this morning to help cover shifts, and I'm pretty sure there will be more days like this coming up this week. This bug is no fun for anyone, but for our elderly people with little reserve it can be dangerous.
So - I'm thinking sunny thoughts, wishing for warmer temperatures and good health, and reminding all of you to wash your hands frequently!
The pics tell the story very well. So sorry about the flu mess at work and all the extra paperwork too. Plus contending with the snow. We are super dry here and warm this winter in AZ but hopefully we'll have some moisture this coming week. Stay healthy!
ReplyDeleteOh Mari, I'm so sorry about the flu outbreak. I certainly remember the many closures to visitors at my mom's place of residence. Every year all the visitors and family were told they needed to get flu shots and then the government also made it mandatory for health care workers. I hope that the flu outbreak at the care facility where you work ends soon and that the snow also subsides.
ReplyDeleteWow, people complain about the snow here! We get 2cm and we're off school!
ReplyDeleteHope all your patients are better soon. Several nursing homes here have a no visitor policy right now due to the flu.
ReplyDeleteThe flu is raging here as well, and schools all over, have been and are still closed. Praying this 'bug' leaves soon for everyone. Snow, snow and more snow. We dont have it, but we have crazy weather this winter. I am looking for spring too!
ReplyDeleteYep, about the snow...no flu outbreak here, yet. Maybe its because it has been too cold? I dunno. Keeping you in prayer. ---I'm ready for warmer weather too, sigh.
ReplyDeleteWhat a load to care for. If only the flu wasn't so contagious.
ReplyDeleteWe have had some snow, but I don't think we've had more than four or five inches at a time...nothing like you've experienced. We've definitely experienced the cold temperatures though. Praying about the flu and the work situation. Something like that is so hard for the elderly to fight off.
ReplyDeleteOh my, this seems so dire. Bless you as you work these long hours in snowy weather as you try to stay healthy amid so much sickness!
ReplyDeleteYes, that flu is horrible, and you know better than most of us. I can see the danger in visiting, and we've been wearing masks at the hospital.
ReplyDeleteThe snow is pretty, but I do worry about your driving, Mari. I know you have to though. :(
xoxo
It sounds to me like you deserve an early spring. Stay safe and well!
ReplyDeleteI hope the flu leaves your facility very soon. How awful for everyone. I'm sure you're a huge godsend to the people at work, you're always willing and able to fill in wherever they need you. Take care and think springy thoughts!
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I am so sorry about all of the illness around you, Mari. Such a terrible time. And I'm in amazement at the snow you've had. We had a few weeks of cold and now it's pretty much springtime, with highs in the 70s this week. Of course, we could get a few more days of cold, but no more than a few. And I've been sick all winter with one thing and another. We have so much to do that it's discouraging not to feel 100%. I keep thinking every day, this will be it and I'll be done with feeling lousy. If I think about you going to work at three o'clock in the morning, though, I might cry. So I won't think about it. Haaahaha xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember days, weeks like that when I was working. So not fun for anyone. I know some are sick around here but we have been fine in this house. We wish to keep it that way!
ReplyDeleteWe've had more ice than snow lately. This week it's warmer but not warm....looking forward to when warm is here to stay!
God bless you and give you good health as you bless your residents!
Yes! It's definitely time for snow and sickness to end! :)
ReplyDeleteWe use sanitizer all the time. All the time. I was more afraid of getting the flu at the hospital than I was of having heart troubles. I hope you stay healthy, Mari. Bless you for the work you do.
ReplyDeleteBless you Mari as you work in the midst of the patients who have the flu. I am hoping and praying that we do not get it. I pray that you will stay well.
