Cooking Thursday

Today's recipe is another one that's a comfort food recipe and it so good in cold weather!  It's one I've made for some time, and I really don't know where I got it from originally.  I use this recipe quite often when I'm bringing someone a meal because it's easy, it always turns out good and it's kind of a classic food that most people like.

French Oven Stew

2 pounds beef stew meat, cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes
2 large onions, cut into eight pieces
3 stalks celery, cut into large pieces
4 large carrots, quartered
2 large potatoes, cut into chunks
1/3 cup quick cooking tapioca
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon basil
2 cups tomato juice

Combine tomato juice, tapioca, sugar, salt, pepper and basil in bowl.  Set aside
Place meat, onions, celery and carrots in a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.  Pour tomato juice mixture over top and cover.
Bake at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.
Add potato chunks and bake another hour.
Remove from oven and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

  4. It look so delicious and timing was perfect. I was just looking on line as to where to purchase an economically priced instant pot. I already have a pressure cooker but it is rather large and has never been quite as good as I'd like. I need a replacement in the not too distant future to make yummy stews like you are showing. xx

  8. Okay! I made something similar to this yesterday and it did NOT look as good as yours, Mari. We enjoyed it anyway; the kids were here. :)

I never would have thought to use tapioca. You always have the best recipes!

  11. That sounds so good, and I like that it calls for large chunks. Wish there was a bowl ready on the table now. :)

  12. Hi Mari!
Playing catch up. Loved your previous posts (beautiful pic) and loved the pumpkin project with the girls. They are so cute and that was a really neat way to decorate them different.

But boy does this recipe sound yummy!! Perfect comfort food for this time of year! I'll be posting some recipe stuff tomorrow.

    Blessings HOn. xoxo
