Today was a work day for me, but I wasn't working the floor. Every Monday I have a "paperwork" day. It's a day that I work on things like infection control, vaccinations, labs, schedules... and all sorts of other things that need to be done. On these days I start at 7:30, so I get to sleep 30 minutes later too!
5:30 am - time to get up and hit the treadmill for 30 minutes.
Then a shower, get dressed and have breakfast.
7:10 - I'm out the door, heading in to work. This is my corner of my street. You can see it looks a little dreary. It rained all day yesterday, all night and was drizzling as I drove in.
You probably remember that we have been having all sorts of renovations at work. Our addition is done. One wing is complete and the residents moved into it last week. Now they are starting on the office area, which includes the nurses station. The little office I usually use on Mondays had to be emptied out, as well as this whole area.
This was our nurses station. I spent many years behind that desk and it's strange to see it looking like this.
Across from the desk is this area that used to have a big screen tv and more furniture - it's another area that looks really strange!
I was working on emptying the rest of the things from my office and was moving them to the new wing, where I will be sharing an office with my Director of Nursing for about a month. As I was pushing a cart of things over there, my DON came to find me to tell me that the State was in the building for our annual meeting!
(the sign says Survey in Progress)
If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know this is never a fun time. Inspectors with clipboards watching your every move, asking lots of questions and often being quite intimidating are no fun. After hearing this I went over to the new section to help.
The group we have this year seems to have common sense and is acting quite normal - hopefully that will continue.
The day was a hard one though - one of our residents suddenly took a turn for the worse and was placed on Hospice, there were several doctor appointments with new orders, lots of extra phone calls to make, orders to put in and questions to answer. I was ready to leave at 5 when we got a lab report back that meant another resident had to go to the hospital.
When I finished that and left work it was 6pm
In the meantime - it rained most of the day and was pretty wet! This is a field I saw on the way home.
But then the sun peeked out and let these trees show off the new leaves that are popping.
When I got home, my supper was waiting for me. This is a spaghetti casserole that I had made and frozen. Bob had the day off so he had popped it in the oven. (I'll share the recipe on Thursday
After supper, Bob had to go to a board meeting at church, and I went downstairs to do a little cleaning. We are having central air installed tomorrow and I didn't want the furnace room to be too cluttered.
When I finished that I went outside, where it was quite cold, but the sun was shining! These dwarf lilacs will be opening soon.
It was nice seeing the sun rays hit this area. Do you see the red bud tree behind the gate?
Then it was time to relax and watch The Voice!
It was a busy day, but another good day!
You are an amazing woman Mari...how you do it all is beyond me. I get tired just reading about your day!! Cant wait for that recipe.
ReplyDeleteYou had a very busy day! It's always sad when residents have to go into hospice or hospital.
ReplyDeleteYou are an inspiration, Mari. God bless you for all you do for so many. It was rainy here until lunch on Monday. I had to drive to Atlanta and had to pull over on the expressway once when the rain was heavy. I love seeing the red bud tree thru the gate. Wishing you a nice day. xo
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you worked all day and then when you got home, you cleaned the furnace room? What did you put in that spaghetti to help re-energize yourself?!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the lilac and the tree blossoms behind the gate [wish we had some rain]
Oh wow...if I'd been told the inspectors were there I would have panicked...which is the worst thing one could do. :) So I am glad it was you who was there and not me. I'm certain the inspectors will find things in order.
ReplyDeleteWe had a bad storm pass through last evening around 5:00...thankful that the tornado watch was cleared up early about an hour early.
It is still windy here today and much cooler, but that will continue throughout the day and part of the rest of our week.
Whistling, central ac...smiles. I can only wish, giggling.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day, Mari, regardless of the weather.
It sounds like your day was kind of a mix of good and stressful. I'm glad everything turned out okay with the patient and with the inspectors. Your casserole looks good, I can't wait to see your recipe. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are a busy gal.
ReplyDeleteNice to see your area a bit more... it looks like a lovely place to live.
Glad you were able to get through your inspection without any trouble. That sounds nerve wracking though.
What a sweet hubby you have to get dinner ready for you!
Looking forward to that recipe.
Have a great rest of your week.
~K.
Wow, what a full day! I love that you included the sunshine peaking through at the end. You seem to have a gift for noticing the good things, Mari;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a day! Glad you have today off so you can relax a little!
ReplyDeleteHope everything got a good report. I know you will be glad when everything is in place and settled. If the sun was out today, good....the rain makes things dreay. Hope they got the new AC unit installed ok. Have a restful evening.
ReplyDeleteOh, the inspectors! hahaha...oh no! Glad to hear they were fairly nice the first day! Seems like they have perfect timing for crazy days to show up! haha.
ReplyDeleteReads like you had a productive day even though the weather was not all good. Glad I stopped by.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, you make every moment count...bet you slept sound!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that Bob can get dinner ready for you after a hard day like that! My audit is just weeks away, so I sure understand the stress that comes with 'officials' looking into every corner. Even when you know everything is fine, it is still stressful and time-consuming.
ReplyDeleteOh, those inspectors again! It is never a good time for them to come and especially when the offices are being redone.
ReplyDeleteI am happy for you that you are getting A/C! It seems like the summers may be getting hotter.
We have been getting a lot of rain also. My family who have been having all the illness had trees blown down on two cars. Like they say, "When it rains, it pours!"
That last picture is so beautiful! I love all the red and pink budding trees everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhat a day at work. They never warn you ahead of time about the inspectors, so they?
Yea for the central AC. I think back to all the years we lived without any AC and wonder how we survived. I guess you just get used to being uncomfortable.
We couldn't watch The Voice on Monday evening until the very end because the storms took out our Comcast for a few hours. But I did see on Tuesday that most of my favorites went through.
