We had a chili cook-off at work a few weeks ago. I didn't enter because I was working the night before, but I wouldn't have won anyway - we had one overwhelming winner! The winner shared her recipe with me and I made it this past weekend. It's a rich, meaty chili with a bit of a kick! It filled my 6 quart crockpot, so I have some saved in the freezer for another day.
Prize Winning Chili
3 pounds hamburger, browned and drained
1 onion, chopped and browned
3 envelopes McCormick Tex-Mex chili seasoning
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 cans kidney beans, drained
3 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
3 cans Rotel original tomatoes with green chilies
Stir hamburger, onion, seasoning and brown sugar together in large crock pot. Add the beans and tomatoes. Cook on low for 6 hours. Serve with cheese, sour cream, chopped onion or other toppings of your choice.
John would like the extra kick and I like the different beans combined. Makes me hungry!
ReplyDeleteYum! We had chili this week, too!
ReplyDeleteYum...perfect for cool fall nights.
ReplyDeleteChili has to be hot to go over here in this house so I am copying this one because it looks like it will meet their requirements. I like the idea of freezing some of it too. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeleteThis is very similar to mine - and I call it brown sugar chili. ;O) It's all about that "sweet heat"!! (& besides sour cream and cheese it's so good topped with fritos corn chips) Yum! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing, Mari! What size cans of Rotel? I have two sized in my pantry - very small and pretty big. How many ounces each did you use please?
ReplyDeleteThe chilli looks awesome ♥
ReplyDeleteLooks tasty, I can almost smell it from here!
ReplyDeleteWow - that looks so good, Mari. I've never thought to add black beans! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence...hubby just suggested we have chili for dinner one night. I will try this recipe. Thanks Mari x
ReplyDeleteI just made chili tonight for dinner....and a kettle of cheeseburger soup :)
ReplyDeleteI made chili this weekend, too. This sounds delicious, and it's always nice to leftovers to freeze.
ReplyDeleteSounds good! I love a good homemade chilli!
ReplyDeleteNow, we have one chili recipe at our house and we all use it -- Andrew's always seems to taste the best even though he uses "my" recipe, LOL -- but THIS recipe makes me think I'm stuck in a rut. I'm making it! And I won't tell them it's different. We'll take a poll. Thanks, Mari! xoxo
