There is no spattering, no burns and the greasy mess is kept in the pan. You do still have that bacon smell though! :) We really like the taste better than the thin pre-cooked type.
When I bake it, I do the whole package, then put it in the freezer. If you need some it thaws quickly and it's much more economical than the pre-cooked bacon.
Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Use a cookie sheet with side to contain the grease. Line it with aluminum foil. Place bacon on foil and cook for about 20 minutes. Watch it closely and remove when it's golden brown.
Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towels. So easy and so good!
Thanks for a great tip. I love crispy bacon but hate the mess. When I cook cabbage it makes the whole house smell for days...the other day I placed a bowl of vinegar near where the cabbage was simmering and there was no lingering smell! I had read that when you paint, a bowl of vinegar takes the paint smell out of the air. Maybe it will work with bacon too!
ReplyDeleteBacon is good for anything!!! I am a bacon lover for sure, and this was a very good idea...thank you Mari.
ReplyDeleteYep, we bake it as well...great tip, Mari. Have a beautiful day friend.
ReplyDeleteI will have to try this. We also get the pre-cooked kind at Sam's Club, but it tastes much better cooked fresh. I always do the whole package, then we can have BLTs later. Thanks for reminding me that this is the best way to cook bacon!
ReplyDeleteBoth my daughters love bacon but they insist on cooking it in frying pan. The hob is in front of stainless steel tiles and the mess the cooking makes is awful. All for a few rashers of bacon!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really good idea!
ReplyDeleteWe make bacon in the oven as well. But I don't pre-heat....just turn the oven to 400 and put in the pan. It's usually almost finished by the time it gets to 400 :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I do that too Mari...I saw Ina Garten do it and pooh poohed it for a while but it is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI've always done it in the oven...so easy! But we buy that precooked kind, too....so fast and easy, especially if you just need some crispy crumbles on something!
ReplyDeleteI am going to give this a try but I think I will also pour the drippings in a ice cube tray and freeze that as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to cook it all and then freeze it. That is very clever indeed!
ReplyDeleteI used to do that all the time! I've also found that the microwave with plenty of paper towels does an awesome job. :)

My absolute favorite way to make bacon too!! Just the best for the right "crispiness" too. Brush a little maple syrup on - or pat with alittle brown sugar - and you have candied bacon too. Yum!! xoox
ReplyDeleteI've done this for years. In fact, I wouldn't dream of ever cooking bacon on the stove again. However ... as much as we love bacon, we rarely have it. It's because of that lingering smell in the kitchen. Haaahaha xoxo
ReplyDeleteI used to bake bacon this way, but I got away from doing it. My reasoning is this, when I ration it out for breakfast and they want more, I can say, "Well, I don't have any more fried."
ReplyDeleteThere are a bunch a baconeaters here.
My boys love bacon, I hate cooking it!! this is the way I do it too!
ReplyDeleteand it's close to BLT season - gotta get the bacon ready!
ReplyDeleteI always do bacon in the microwave with plenty of paper towels. So much better than spattering up the stove!
