Down by the riverside

Friday evening we stopped at the Eastmanville Bayou, which is about 1 1/2 miles from our house.  It's a small county park that sits between the Grand River and the Bayou.  There is a canoe and kayak launch, trails to walk, a small pavilion and fishing spots.  We just went for a little walk and so I could take some pictures, as I've been enjoying seeing the beauty as I drove by it.

A view of the bridge over the river.

I always enjoy this view of the underside of the bridge.

Some pretty wildflowers we saw on our walk.

 A view of the river.

This is purple loosestrife.  It's growing like crazy by the bayou.  It's a plant that isn't native to the area and is very invasive near the water.  I guess it's like kudzu in the South. I have to admit that I love seeing it - it's beautiful, but at the same time it's bad for everything around it as it takes over.

 Here's a close-up of it.

This is the bayou side. You can see it growing on the other bank of the bayou also.

It was a beautiful evening, perfect for a walk by the river.

  1. With your talent for picture taking and your husband so talented at woodworking...when you retire from nursing, you two could have a great business. Thanks for sharing these pretty pictures.

  4. What a peaceful way to end the day. I especially enjoyed the one under the bridge. Reminds me of the effect 2 mirrors make...going on and on.

  5. The river and view around it is refreshing. It can be very ralaxing to take a walk in tge area. Those flowers are beautiful, it's fine if the just grow in the wild and take over the whole land. That would look awesome!

  6. Wat a nice spot for a walk!! It is 62 degrees here in NoAla this morning. I am doing a happy dance right now! I can walk in the crisp air this morning and I won't be "glistening" at the end of walk!

  7. Extremely pretty. I think if it'd be that close to home, I'd go there every day to unwind. The flowers, of which I've never heard of 'til this morning, are gorgeous...but I like the perspective of 'under the bridge' best of all today.

  8. Mari, you have such a good photographic eye. Bob isn't the only talented artist in the family! I have never heard of purple loosestrife before. It is beautiful and is something that perhaps I could even grow! LOL It is a lot prettier than kudzu!!

  19. So pretty! We sure are blessed to live in an area with so much natural beauty. Remind me that I said that in a few months when all we see is white and we're freezing. ;)

  21. Oh, those wildflowers! So pretty. I was wondering why they called it a "bayou" but I remember that there were a lot of French settlers in that part of the country. I only think of the bayous in Louisiana, but of course that's not the only place where they are.
