Annual Chicken BBQ

Saturday evening was the annual chicken BBQ in Drenthe, Michigan, which is about 30 minutes from my house.  It's something I've been going to since I was a little girl.  You may remember me blogging about it before. Every year my Dad invites the whole family, and usually most of us can make it.  This year we were a small group.  There were several who who out of town and several who were working.  Those of us who made it had fun though!

When we arrived we saw old tractors...

and a few old cars too.

The guys were grilling chicken for hundreds of people to enjoy!

 And we did enjoy it!

Here's part of the family, eating and talking.

My Dad and stepmom enjoying their meal.

Ruby didn't get chicken, she had yogurt puffs instead.

Alaina was much more excited about the petting zoo outside, than the chicken!

We got to see a potbellied pig do tricks.

 Ruby was watching too.

We watched a goat get milked.

And Alaina got to milk it too - and she was succesful!

There were fire engines there, and Alaina got a fireman's hat on the way out.  What a fun night!

  1. Oh, how fun! Chicken looks so good, and Alaina was having a ball petting the animals AND milking! It won't be long before Ruby will be right there with her big sister. :)

I love hearing about family outings.

  2. This sounds like such a fun event for the family! There are plenty of feeds, benefit dinners, and breakfasts around here...but we usually don't see chicken. Mostly it's some type of pork or beef, sweet corn, pie, or pancakes. I guess it probably depends on what is grown in the area. Love the photos of Alaina and Ruby and the animals--and the barn and silos in the background in the photo of the chicken being grilled. That is a lot of chicken! Also good to see one correctly colored tractor among all the others (green of course;) ).

  5. Great fun! The petting zoo is wonderful as kids and adults can feel those animals alive and not just watch them like an animation. But I'd love to have some chicken too :)

  7. A perfect outing with the family. I bet every minute was fun. Those granddaughters of yours are so cute. And your bloodline really shows through...they both look so much like YOU, Mari.

I would be right there with Alaina and the petting zoo. Oh and those bright red/orange spokes on the wheels of that car. Awesome.

  16. I miss going to my hometown's Sweet Corn Festival. They are so much fun and especially when you can see family and friends you haven't seen in awhile. Ruby's hair just cracks me up. She is beyond adorable. Alaina is beautiful and very smart. Thanks for sharing them with us! Wonderful photos and good memories!

  18. That looks like so much fun! And holy Hannah what a LOT of chicken!! ;) How cool with the old time cars and petting zoo for the kiddos too.
The pig photos brought back memories of my BIL having one as a pet many years ago. His name was Tubby and he was kind of ornery. Lol
    Thanks for sharing Mari! xoxo

  19. I am with Alaina. I would prefer the petting zoo. When I was her age I had two pet lambs. I absolutely loved those lambs. Alaina looks so cute in her fireman's hat.

  20. Mari these are some of the best photos you've ever taken. Just beautiful. What an event! I'd LOVE that! And like Cheryl, I'd be with Alaina petting the critters. I love her green bandaids. You've got a couple of gorgeous little granddaughters. Ruby's just a treasure and Alaina's got that All-American Girl thing going on. xoxo
