We get some wildlife in our backyard. We get lots of rabbits (to Bob's dismay - they eat his flowers), woodchucks, quail, turkey...We've even had a few deer.
Lately we've had something quite special though - the elusive tree fox!
These may look like your standard squirrels, and that is what we always called them, but according to Alaina, they are actually tree foxes.
They've been very happy in the back yard lately, because the maple tree has dropped thousands of seeds. They scamper up and down the tree, run through the flowers and into the woods. Those tree foxes are quite entertaining.
I have a feeling that the squirrels in these parts may never be called squirrels again...
Oh, that is so cute!
ReplyDeleteWow...look at those huge tails! Amazing!
That is precious! Mari, I have to tell you that every time we see a "silly boy" that is exactly what we call them now! And our yard is full of tree foxes! Alaina is adorable.
ReplyDeleteooooh I love that black squir ... er, tree fox. He's purty. Soooo cute, just like Alaina. What a little doll. xoxo

ReplyDeleteWe have "tree foxes" here, too! (And moles - or voles. Not sure which.)

ReplyDeleteI like Alaina's version!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's cute to boot.
"Tree Foxes" My, how neat is that! I don't think I have ever heard of some squirrels referred to as "Tree Foxes" :) So cute, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHaha!! This actually made me laugh out loud! Love it - and how adorable is that!! From now on when I see them in my yard this is what will be in my head. ;)
ReplyDeletehappy weekend Sweetie! xoxo
Finally managed to get back on to your blog Mari !! It's been weeks and weeks but I still kept checking. Good to catch up with what you've been doing!!!
ReplyDeleteTree foxes... I like that description! They are such cute little critters.
ReplyDeleteThat little girl is so smart to come up with that name! I mean, they sure look like foxes and they climb trees so who in the world would call them squirrels?!?!? Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteI like that...I think I'm going to be calling them "tree foxes" as well :)
ReplyDeleteThat's just adorable that she made up that name!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a bear in our community this week. A woman who lives just a few houses down from my church office saw it walk through her neighbor's yard, across the street, through several more lawns! Later we found out it ended up in someone else's back yard, several streets away!! That is scary, knowing that children play outside unwatched. They say to be sure not to have bird feeders.
Fun name from Alaina! They must be neat to watch! We've had a couple squirrels visit our yard over the years, but our dog never lets them invade for long! I think they are a delicacy for her.
ReplyDeleteHi Mari! How interesting that you have grey and black squirrels. We only have the red/grey kind. I'be nevr heard of 'tree foxes' before. I was thinking you'd have a photo of a red fox with big toes or something! I'm such a city-gal.
ReplyDeleteHappy Father's Day to your husband :)

ReplyDeleteThat's funny...before I realized that was Alaina's name for them, I thought they sure look like squirrels to me!
