Oh, that Ruby!

Most of you know that we have Alaina overnight every other week, when it's my weekend off.  You may also remember that we've tried to have Ruby come too, but she's been going through a scared stage and doesn't like that idea.
She's been seeming better lately, so this past weekend we thought it was time to try again.
Laura and Aaron brought the girls over and we did a little playing.

After some initial hesitation she seemed to be doing ok.

Alaina was having a great time, and insisted on giving Grandpa a wagon ride.

But when it was time for her Dad and Mom to leave, Ruby wasn't having anything to do with it!
She has quite a scream (Laura says it's a banshee wail!) and she wasn't going to stop.
So in the end, she went back home, and Alaina stayed.  We had a good time, but we sure hope Miss Ruby gets over this soon!

  8. Oh, poor little girl! I hope that she will come to learn that it will be OK to stay with you and that her Mom and Dad will come back to get her. Perhaps as she gets a little older and realises that Aliana is there she will be OK. I hope so for you all. xx

  10. Aw poor little one, well at least she had some fun times with you before she left. The Banshee squeal I can relate to...lol. My neighbor is a threenager...and has a voice of a opera singer. She's a delight, but wow can she scream, it's all drama all the time, we giggle when we hear it.

    Thanks so much for visiting.

  11. She is such a Dolly. It's too bad that she still struggles, but with such fun grandparents I'm sure she'll get over it no time. Did Alaina have these struggles when she was really little? God bless the grandparents! Such special folks. ;)

  15. Oh dear. I know the banshee wail only too well! TG carried Dagny to her mother's car after church last evening, opened the back right passenger door, and deposited D into her carseat. A few beats passed and then you would have thought he'd put her into a tank of pinching lobsters. The howling! I quickly took her back out and consoled her but we never could figure out what made her freak out. Like Ruby, Dag wants to be with her mother -- as in, IN her mother's arms! It's so funny to see Ruby wailing while Alaina already has Grampa in the wagon and is taking him for a ride, haaahaaha! She lives so large. I love it. xoxo

  16. I know too well about the Banshee Wail! Ben was born with it. It lasted for three years. I guess it was detachment anxiety. I had him to the doctor more times than I could count. I don't know who needed the doctor more.....me or him! Watching him today, I think that he was probably very sensitive and that which about drove me bananas is what has propelled him to success today. So, there is hope! Ruby is probably a genius!

  18. When they are little like that, it seems that only mom and dad will do. She'll outgrow it before long. Have a great week.

  19. Thanks for all the encouragement! Yes, Cherdecor - we keep saying Ruby is going to do great things with her life because she knows what she wants and doesn't stop until she gets it.

Someday we'll have to record the banshee wail so everyone can hear it. It really could shatter glass I think! Or at least eardrums... :)

  22. We are going through exactly the same thing! Our 3 and a half year old grandson loves us , his little sister? Not so much. I can distract her for a bit, but she looks for mom. This too shall pass, right! Still fun to be with ! Your grandkids are beautiful!

  23. Aww poor Ruby, and poor you too! I'm sure as she gets older she'll be happy to stay over. Some kids are just more clingy than others.
