Today I have a pie baking tip for you. Many pie recipes tell you to put strips of foil on the edge of your pie crust the first part of baking it. I always had trouble getting those strips to stay on the pie when I moved it into the oven. I came up with another idea that I've been using for years!
Cut a piece of foil large enough to cover your whole pie. Fold it in half, and then in half again so it makes a square.
Cut a piece out of the center, the size of the pie center, then unfold the remaining piece.
Place that piece over the pie, leaving center open, and press foil around the edges of the crust. Remove foil when there is 15 minutes left to bake the pie.
Take pie out of oven and you will find that the crust is a uniform, golden brown!
Yayyy, thank you; I too have always had trouble doing that, now I wont!!! And morning or night, I appreciate your prayers.
ReplyDeleteNice and easy! I do the same thing with the tent but don't even cut out the circle.
ReplyDeleteMari - such a clever and useful tip. If I ever make a pie, I'll be sure to remember this. Thanks!

Thank you, Mari, for this great tip! I always had a rough time trying to get the strips of foil to stay on and hard to get off. Your tip should work really well.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip....if only pie baking was among my talents. Never made a good pie. Yours looks wonderful, though!
ReplyDeleteWell that certainly makes baking pie easier :) I always cut three strips of foil and fold them around the edges...your way is MUCH better :) Thanks for sharing, Mari. Hugs!

Very clever. Your pie is gorgeous. I hope there are cherries inside. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Mari, what a wonderful tip for the covering. I could never get the foil to stay in place either. This is the best idea. Plus, your pie looks so good!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Blessings, CM
You always have such good tips, Mari!
ReplyDeleteAluminum foil is expensive and hard to find here, so on one of our trips to the U.S. I bought a silicone pie crust shield. I'm glad I did, because the price of foil just keeps going higher and higher. Because it is so hard to find, I tend to stock up when I start getting low. But I walked away from Walmart without buying any last time after suffer serious sticker shock -- it was the equivalent almost $8 U.S. for a small roll with 28 meters. This was the Great Value brand. At the Walmart there in the U.S., you'd pay $2.97 for the same size box. Pretty sure it's not because it's an imported item; I think it's a product made here and sold under the Great Value label. The other brands were even higher!
Wow, what a great idea! Even when we cook bought pies and cook them they always end up with burnt crusts!
