Here is a screenshot from our local tv station showing the snowfall from this past Thursday and Friday. Do you see the little pink/purple spot to the left of Grand Rapids? That's where I live, and we got 14 inches of snow. The roads didn't improve much until Saturday afternoon.
Although the driving has been terrible, it has been beautiful! Here's a few pictures from my yard.
Our side yard - the bird feeder is getting buried! You can also see how hard the wind was blowing, leaving snow on one side of all the trees.
Our back yard.
Look at the snow piling up on that bench!
Our front walk shows how deep the snow is.
This week is supposed to be a little warmer, closer to 30, and hopefully with only snow flurries.
I'll leave you with this view of our street, after the plow went through, and this cute poem. I've seen it with other variations and places, but it fit us last week. :)
It's winter in West Michigan
and the gentle breezes blow.
Seventy miles an hour,
At thirty-five below.
Oh, how I love West Michigan,
when the snow's up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air,
and your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful,
so I guess I'll hang around.
I could never leave West Michigan,
cause I'm frozen to the ground!
and the gentle breezes blow.

Oh, how I love West Michigan,
when the snow's up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air,
and your nose gets frozen shut.

Something's going on with either my computer or yours; it wouldn't let me post a comment. So, trying again.
ReplyDeleteI know you guys must be cold all the time in that weather, but it truly is a beautiful sight.
Stay safe and warm. Love the little poem.
xoxo
Oh my that's a lot of snow. Take care on the roads! Here in the UK if we had snow like that no one would be driving anywhere! So far we haven't had any snow here at all, and I'm hoping it stays that way, but we do have really bad winds!
ReplyDeleteLudington! (looking at your graphic) I have fond memories of spending summers there. Mari, we are getting walloped here as well this morning. It indeed has been a strange winter. Stay safe. Blessings
ReplyDeleteThe pictures sure tell the story of your winter so far. I cant imagine snow that deep. We get a flake and everything shuts down...lol Be safe when you go outside.
ReplyDeleteHaha...I saw that poem on Facebook with Ohio inserted in it. We only have five inches of snow, though. The subzero temps are gone but now we have freezing rain and icy roads. The boys are home again...just for different weather problems! The forecast isn't suppose to change all week!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful! Stay warm!
to be honest, I don't miss that snow one bit!!! This weekend I was out and thought "man, it is COLD" and then I had to laugh that I surely have adjusted to the south!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo true! Every time I go outside I think, "Remind me why I live in Michigan again?" But at least we don't get hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, avalanches, bad floods, volcanos, bad tornados, etc. :)
ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't know how to function in snow like that! I will say it is a spectacular view! It's been super cold here. We did have some freezing rain Saturday night. I would much, much rather have snow!
ReplyDeleteYay for snow :) Your snow pictures are lovely, Mari. Stay warm and safe! Hugs!

ReplyDeleteI am so happy to just look at your beautiful pictures, Mari!! I hope to never experience snow, ever again. On Thursday night of last week, there were snow flurries in Jacksonville, FL...four hours north of where I live, and it was some phenomenon coming off the Atlantic, for just a few minutes - and then it was gone. Stay warm up there!!
ReplyDeleteLove this Mari!! And you know I relate all too well...although we just have not had much snow this winter (which actually feels weird). Your snow looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove that poem - heard it before with my city's name in it too. I think it goes with any northern Midwest city. Lol!!
Hang in there neighbor. Here's hoping for an early Spring. xo
Oh dear. Here we go again! Batten down the hatches and just enjoy. What else can you do? Here though ... thunderstorms and heavy rain today. It's not often you hear thunder rumbling in January, but what are you going to do? I know what I'm NOT doing: going anywhere. Happy Monday, Mari! xoxo
ReplyDeleteAnd I was thinking you got more snow last winter.
ReplyDeleteWOW! No global warming for you guys.
Wow, that is a lot of snow! I hope that you stay warm and safe. xx
ReplyDeleteMari, I think it would safe to say that you live in snow country! We've had a few winters like what you are having and it is beautiful. The thing I love about it here is that everyone slows down and people are out helping one another.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your beautiful pictures!
First, I didn't realize you lived so far north of Grand Rapids. Secondly, your gardens are beautiful. Last, that poem made me giggle! Stay warm, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThe snow scenes are lovely. It looks like you have more snow than we do. It has been windy here so a lot of what we have has been blown into drifts. I think a "usual winter" would be very unusual!
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
The fresh white snow looks so beautiful! We had a dusting of snow that stayed for just over a day, but no snow since.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and the poem cracked me up! But gotta say, I DO NOT miss those Michigan winters. At all. I'll just enjoy the photos :)
