Can you believe it's September already? Since it's the first, I'm going to share my day with you.
I work every other Labor Day, and since I worked last year, I got this one off. However - Bob had to work, so I was on my own today.
My Dad's family has an annual picnic on Labor Day. I slept in a bit, then made my dish to pass at the picnic.
Here's the Taco Salad I made. I got the recipe from my Director of Nursing and I'll share it here soon.
After getting it ready, I was off to the picnic.
I've been going to this Labor Day picnic for as long as I can remember and it's always been at this park near my hometown. I think this little building is so charming!
Here's more of the park. It's a beautiful spot!
There were a lot of people there as usual. My Dad comes from a family of 10 so the gatherings are pretty big. (My Dad is in this picture, standing on the very left)
We ate and talked, then headed for home. Just before we left, it started to pour.
Here's a picture I took out my window when I got home. Still raining!
When Bob came home from work, we had some grilled chicken that I had purchased and frozen. After warming in the crockpot all afternoon, it was delicious.
After supper, the clouds were blowing away and the sun came out.
I wandered around the yard and took a few pictures.
Bob went out into his barn and did a little carving.
It was a nice day! Tomorrow I'm back to work. Hope you all had an enjoyable day too.
Sounds like you had a pretty good holiday with friends and family and good food. Your pictures are so good. I love seeing my blog buddies activities, as it makes me feel I know you better. Does that sense?
ReplyDeleteyes, you had a very nice day...lovely people, yummy food, pretty surroundings! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tradition; to get together and have a last of summer... first of Fall picnic!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice day.
K.
That does sound like a very nice day! That is so neat that you were able to have the day off to get together with your dad's side of the family. Have a good short week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice day you had. The picnic looks like a lot of fun, it must have been a nice big crowd.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the rain held off until the end of the picnic. It looks like you had a fun, full day. I'm looking forward to your taco salad recipe as I'm both a taco and a salad fanatic :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area...family...and fun times. A perfect day.
Not to mention the salad...that looks scrumptious.
Perfectly idyllic. You work hard and I'm glad you had a day of rest and delicious vittles and rain and taking pictures and family and a cozy supper with your beloved. And now for the BER months ... you know, my favorites: SeptemBER ~ OctoBER ~ NovemBER ~ DecemBER~~~ xoxo
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely day - even though your husband had to work!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the park pictures too! It is a beautiful place indeed. That chicken looks so yummy. I am glad that you had a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteHi Mari! I always love family gatherings, and it sure looks like a big one here. What a blessing that so many can come and swap stories and get caught up. I'm sorry your husband had to work :(
ReplyDeleteGlad your chicken turned out well! And that taco salad does look yummy. Looking forward to the recipe!

Ceil
What a fun day! I can't wait to see your taco salad recipe.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you had a good time despite the rain. xx
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that your large family still gets together every year! I sure do miss it. What a blessing! The taco salad looks great, and so does that chicken! My Labor Day was quiet and I got the laundry done, after our busy weekend down in Naples!
ReplyDeleteAwe..how wonderful! Our families use to get together like that..but unfort..since my grandfather passed and grams is in a nursing home..family just doesn't get together much..sad to say. Thanks for the smiles..and the memories.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely park - and an even lovelier tradition!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned taco salad. I have to take something to a carry-in lunch. Now I know what I'll take.
We spent Monday afternoon with my parents - dominoes altogether in the Nursing Home where my mother lives - then back to my father's place. I'd taken burgers, corn on the cob, some slaw & cantaloupe. Fun time - just not a crowd...
OK, I have to explain the picture Mari put up. I am not one of those old people trying to act young by wearing their hat backwards, I do that when I carve so the bill does not block the light I have overhead.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great day! Yes, I have got to have that recipe. I love the photos of your family gathering. Makes me sad that I don't have that. I really don't now that my parents are gone. I know it was great!
ReplyDeleteThat does indeed sound like a nice day! That park is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, anyone wearing a cap is cool to me, whichever way round.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great day off Mari. But a day off to me would mean someone else would be doing the cooking. Okay, that must mean I have every day off!
