He's back!

It happens every year... a chipmunk comes to visit. This chipmunk and a brother or two love to come and sit on our front porch. They grab a maple tree seed, take it onto the porch and happily munch it. The problem with this is the torment it causes Oliver. We have a glass storm door there and he loves to lay and look outside. I can tell when the chipmunk arrives, because Oliver starts scrambling, makes little sounds and his tail goes crazy. On the other hand, the chipmunk doesn't even appear to notice him, he just ignores what's happening on the other side of the glass. He seems to know that he's safe.

Here he comes - they're staring each other down.

"I'll just turn my back on you while I eat"

"This sure is a nice place to eat a little snack!"

I have to admit that he's pretty cute!

  2. So cute! Callie got out today and I saw a flea on her AGAIN! A couple of weeks ago we did a flea treatment. It didn't work so we got a Capstar that is supposed to last for 3 months. I'll be visiting the vet tomorrow. Is your cat inside all the time?

  3. Hi Mari! How funny that the chipmunk comes back every year? They must like your restaurant a lot :)
Poor Oliver...I guess 'live and let live' will really have to sink in with him!

  5. I think chipmunks are adorable!

However, I know someone who has several, they are running his yard.
Any ideas how to get rid of them?

We have problems too, one of our cats bring them to us as presents.

  7. Yep, he is a cutie. It drives our cat crazy looking at the birds. You take the best pictures. Have a good day.

  8. He is cute. Scruffy killed one and left it by the back door for us. I wasn't happy. Killing the moles helps out our yard, but a cute, little chipmunk in a totally different matter. Both cats have bells on them, but George is so slow with his weight and his diabetes, that he could not possibly catch anything. Scrffy is fast and will hide. I saw another chipmunk the other day and he was scurrying around. Hopefully he won't end up prone by my door!

  9. The chipmunk is so cute. Isn't it funny to watch animals interact? It's like Oliver feel suspicious of his motives. :)

  14. Oh my goodness what great shots of that darling little fellow! Good on you, Mari. We have a chipmunk that saucily darts back and forth from under the boards that border our deck. It drives Javier NUTS. He just about comes unglued until I let him out (where he can do nothing about the chipmunk which has vanished). He and Oliver would have lots to talk about. xoxo

  15. He is absolutely adorable, and very well fed! Our cats go nuts over the squirrels, lizards, and there was a dead snake in my kitchen over the weekend. A baby, but 14 inches long. Not sure which one captured it around the pool and brought it in through the pet door. Harmless, but I was glad it was dead. I don't think we have chipmunks down here in Florida.
