It seems that a lot of the recipes I share with you are old ones. I guess they've stood the test of time! This is one that was really popular when I was in high school (and that's been a few years!) It's still a favorite around here.
Caramel Layer Chocolate Squares
14 ounce package caramels or caramel bits
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 package german chocolate cake mix
1 tablespoon water
3/4 cup softened butter
6 ounces chocolate chips
Combine caramels and milk and microwave until melted. Set aside.
Combine remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips. Stir until dough is crumbly, but holds together. Press half of dough into greased 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 for 6 minutes.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over crust, then spread melted caramel over chips. Sprinkle reserved dough over all.
Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees and cool completely.
I have not seen a recipe like this one; it sounds great. Alaina is a lucky girl that you are sharing your treasured recipes here on your blog for her to enjoy when she is older.
