May 19 marks the 11th
anniversary of my Mom's death. She was only 69 when she died unexpectedly of a heart attack. It's hard for me to believe she would have been 80 now.
She was a great Mom and Grandma. She
was always so proud of us kids. She loved to introduce us to her
friends at church or her work. And - if she thought we were good, she
thought her grand kids were even more remarkable! She just loved those
kids. I hope her friends didn't get sick of seeing the pictures or
hearing about them!
God
blessed me with a Mom who was not only a mother, but she was my friend.
She wasn't afraid of disciplining me, but we also had fun together. I
remember many evenings, when I was a teenager that she and I were up
late, just talking. She had a good sense of humor and was good natured
about the teasing she endured from my Dad and us kids. She had a lot of different roles, as I grew up. My Dad was a dairy farmer, and his crazy hours meant lots of juggling with meal times and preparing lunches to go out to the fields he was working in. She did a lot of work gardening, canning and freezing produce. When I was in Junior High she started working part time as a nurses aide in the local nursing home. She later worked full time as a secretary until she retired. I wish I had been able to have more time with her, and I wish she could see her grandkids and great grandkids now. She would still be so proud of all of them! I know she was a Christian so I'll see her again - in perfect health!
It has to be so hard Mari. My beloved sister, my best friend and soul mate passed away on March 2nd. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that she is not here and that I will never see her this side of heaven again. It was like we were twins, yet we weren't, just close as 2 sisters could be. I cry every single day and can't seem to get passed it. I realize it's still only recent and will take time. The only way I'm functioning is with our Lord's grace. It's so hard.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to your mom! She sounds like a great lady. Thanks so much for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteYou were certainly blessed to have her as your mum. What a comfort in knowing she is now with her Saviour. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, tho bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely you two are. Notice I said 'are' in present tense. Your memories of your mother will always be in the present, AND I know you're lovely in heart, soul, and physical appearance.
I loved reading this Mari.
That is a great photo. I can see in your mom's face all that you just told us about her. I lost my mom when she was just 65, and know we never stop missing them or loving them. What a great reunion we have in store for us one day!!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful tribute to your Mom. We who have loving, God-fearing Moms are so blessed.
ReplyDeleteIf you can edit- she would have been 80 not 50. We were very blessed to have her as our mom for sure!!

ReplyDeleteGreat photo of you and your mom. My mother left us in 2003 and it makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteSome memories are bittersweet. Moms will always hold special places in our hearts. This is a heart touching post.
ReplyDeleteGod gave you a beautiful mother and you are a credit to her every single day. May she rest in peace until the great resurrection morning! You'll have all eternity to catch up on all the news. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI still think about her all the time. I so wish she could have met Alaina, she would have loved her like crazy. And Alaina would have loved her too.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting as I read your post I was thinking that it could just about be a post about you! ;) You're a lot like your Mom, in all the good ways. :)
That's a lovely photo of the two of you! How wonderful that you have so many great memories. I agree, it's hard to lose your mom, no matter when it happens. Mine died at age 56 of cancer. I've thought of her a lot these last few weeks, as I've enjoyed this time with Tina and Simon. A week or two ago, for TBT on Facebook, I shared a photo of mom and Tina (who was just an infant at the time). She loved being a grandma as much as I do :)
