This is what things looked like before, I forgot to take a picture until I had taken down the pictures and the window toppers, but you can see the green paint, lovely border and the comforter.
It was not an easy task taking down that border. As you can see, it came off in little pieces. I hear wallpaper is coming back into style, but I sure hope I don't succumb to it again. I always have a terrible time taking it off.
Ready to paint - border is down, walls are washed and the furniture is moved.
I certainly would never make it as a professional painter. I don't have the patience for it. Heather was nice and helped me out!
Here is the finished room. The wall behind the bed is painted a light brown, and the other walls are blue. I got a new comforter set, blinds and curtains. I still have some things to hang on the walls and I need to find something to put on the wall over the bed.
And here's the other corner. Bob is working on a mirror to hang over the dresser. It looks and feels fresh and updated - and I'm glad it's done!
It looks wonderful, and I love the colors, they are very calm and soothing.
ReplyDeleteHow nice you have Heather to lend a hand!
I love it...I have the same colors in my bedroom. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been putting off doing my family room as it as a wallpaper border...so not looking forward to it. It's been up for 10+ years and I am afraid it will not be easy coming down. :-/
Very pretty choice of colors and bedding.
ReplyDeleteMari, it looks wonderful! I love the brown and blue combination, and your comforter is perfect. I agree with you about wallpaper. I took it down wherever it was when we bought this house. Paint is the only way to go, in my book. Good job, and I know you love it!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job! I would've lost it with the wall paper border. The blend is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice... I too will never have wallpaper in my house again even if it does come back in style.

ReplyDeleteI like the brown and blue combination. Blue is my favorite color. Nice job coordinating the bedding!!! It always amazes me what a new coat of paint will do. My that wallpaper did come off in bits and pieces....not nice!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty colors! Wow, it looks like a brand new room!
ReplyDeleteI just love it Mari.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used both the brown and the blue on the walls. That color brown is an excellent choice for contrast wall. Your choices make the room warm, welcoming, and comforting. Terrific job!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!!
ReplyDeletemy mom has a boarder in her bedroom, but its something she stenciled on herself. she knows its dated, but after all that work she can't bear to paint over it.
What beautiful, comforting colors!! I really, really like it Mari.
ReplyDeleteIt looks really good. I love that color!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing Mari! I love the color scheme! Our bedroom has a border as well, and now I am scared to start on it! Our bedroom will be the last to redo b/c the whole house needs a re-do! LOL!
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeletePretty... I don't paint... my husband told me that I don't know how to paint.. so I don't even try...Your bedroom turned out great!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job it looks so much better now. Can I ask you a silly question? Where did you get the comforter set from? It's just that we have a very similar one in the States but in a different colour combination, and we need another comforter because the lady that cleans the place when we are in the UK tipped bleach on it and it's ruined.
ReplyDeleteI can't stop looking at it! What a difference! I just love it! I love the smell of fresh new paint. Some people like the smell of flowers. Me? I love fresh paint. I know that the pictures tell a lot, but I also know that we cannot see the ambiance that it created. Beautiful, Mari, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job and it looks so pretty. Good choice of colors too. Wallpaper is pain for sure.
ReplyDeleteReally nice Mari - our bedroom has a brown wall behind the bed as well so it's similar. The rest of it (curtains, head board, chair. duvet (you call comforter)is a mixture of beige, brown, cream , mainly stripes. We must have the same taste.
ReplyDeleteGood choice of colors, Mari. Blues and browns go so well together. Chic!
ReplyDeleteOur living areas are in those colours and I love them, they are so peaceful. And ditto on the wallpaper. I was a wallpaper-hanging maniac in the 80's and have lived to regret it.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that having an accent wall is very popular. And as everyone else said, the bedding set is beautiful and blends so well with the walls. I'm with Cheryl - I love the smell of new paint.
ReplyDeleteHa. I am just getting caught up on some blog reading, so I just noticed that you did indeed just tackle the same thing I am currently doing at my daughter's house. I swear, wallpaper is the devil in disguise. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteLove your "new" room!
Looks awesome! Isn't it a nice feeling to have a room updated? I have a border that I would love to find the energy to tackle. I've been pushing it off for ten years now, lol?

ReplyDeleteAnd it's beautiful. I really like the colors you chose. Over your bed? Three beautiful portraits, one of each of your children. That's what I'm planning to put over my bed, where currently there is nothing.
ReplyDeleteI tried commenting the other night from my iPhone, but without success.
ReplyDeleteLove the new look! I agree, it's very calming and serene.
Besides, those are some of my favorite colors :) I bought a striped brown/cream/taupe/aqua quilt about 6 years ago at T J Maxx (on clearance) and it's been our winter quilt ever since. I figured Ivan would appreciate a more "manly" quilt -- after he put up with our former pink floral and green quilt for years :)
