Engine House #5

Engine House #5 is a beautiful building in our town.
It's a Firehouse that was originally built in nearby Grand Rapids in 1880.  It had fallen into disrepair and was going to be demolished when a man from our town, whose business is in old fire equipment, bought it.  He took it apart brick by brick, and reassembled it here.

Here's an old picture of it in it's original spot.

And here's what it looks like now. It's used as a museum that houses old fire trucks and fire equipment.  It also has a section that serves as an arts and crafts store.

This year they lit it up for Christmas and I love passing it each morning on my way to work.

Doesn't that old fire truck look beautiful in the lit up doorway?

I thought you would enjoy a little Christmas joy from my town!

  4. It really is great to see all lit up at night. This is also one building that I really enjoy looking at in our town. I wish we had more historic buildings to look at.

  5. Now that's something to see! How great that a man cared so much about an historic building to do that. I hate to see the old building just go to ruin.

  6. My goodness...this whole story makes one feel quite humbled and what an awesome thing to do for himself and to share it all with anyone who'd love to visit...as I would.

  9. Brick by brick...now, that's dedication! When you see so many homes and buildings that once were beautiful fall into disrepair, it's neat to hear stories, like yours--people who are able to see it's potential and bring it back to its former glory.
