It's been so dry here - no rain for a month. Every time rain is predicted, it goes over or around us. It's really hard on the farmers around here.
Our troubles are nothing compared to the farmers, but it's pretty hard on our flowers too. Bob is having a hard time keeping them all watered.
The Oak leaf hydrangea is already changing to pink and is looking wilted.

Excuse the blurry picture. We had a sprinkler going and this hummingbird was flying into the water every time the water came back over.
These garden phlox are doing ok in the shade.
The purple coneflowers are looking a bit bedraggled too.
We just got the birdbath and the birds have really been enjoying a place to splash around and drink.
You can really see that the flowers are the only part that gets watered. The grass is pretty dry and brown.
Praying that some rain falls this week!
Oh, it is so sad to see everything withering up. Even some of the trees are dropping leaves from the stress.

ReplyDeleteHi Mari, You really have a lovely yard. We finally received small amounts of rain this weekend. Like you, our grass has suffered the most and we've lost a few hollies. Have a good week and I hope you get cooler temps and rainfall.

I know, I know....I know just what you mean by this post. We here are in the 2nd summer of drought. And yes, it's the same where we are...rain threatening, but all to blow away from us up north and east....to HOUSTON. Dang.
ReplyDeleteI bet that was fun to watch the hummingbird in the sprinkler system. It's disheartening to watch the beautiful flowers wilt no matter what you do to keep them 'going'.
I fear tho, that in the future there will be flooding next. It seems that is always the case. One year drought, the next...more water than we know how to handle.
I feel the pain...dry as a bone here too. Hal and I were just talking about how very strange it looks to see nothing but brown dried out lawns. Send the rain Lord!
ReplyDeleteI'm praying with you for rain. The only thing we have been watering is our garden. Sadly, the flowers have had to fight to survive, and I miss their colors.

ReplyDeleteIt's the same here in Lancaster County. There is lots of thunder all around, but we get no rain. Our grass looks so dry too. It looks and feels like walking through straw. We need several days of rain.

It's very very dry here in mid-MO. We have only had a couple of showers that didn't really help at all. I really can't remember the last time we had a nice soaking rain! Even one of my mature large lilac bushes looks like its dying. I feel sorry for the farmers, too. The corn crops are looking bad except for a few that have been irrigated.
ReplyDeleteBecause we can go months without rain in our very dry climate, Ivan put in a gray water system at the lot so we can pump from that to water the lawn, flowers and garden in the future.
ReplyDeleteBut for those not used to drought-like conditions, it's got to be really hard. We'll pray with you for that much needed rain!
Ooooh I love the phlox! We've had a few really heavy rains. Scary even. I am so thankful for it.
