The other day Bob came home from work and told me to get my camera and come outside. He led me to our flagpole and told me to look.
When I first looked, all I saw were the wood chips that are spread around the plants, but then I saw this toad.

He blends in quite nicely with the wood chips, don't you think?
I don't know much about toads, but this one buried itself down into the dirt, even further than this. He stayed there for several days, and I wondered if he was sick or dying. But then, he hopped away and hasn't returned.
I know toads are good to have around because they eat bugs - hopefully he took care of a few while he was here!
He was hidden very well! Cute photo and I hope he did his part in cutting down on bugs!
ReplyDeletemaybe just cooler in the ground? or laying eggs? He does blend in perfectly!
ReplyDeleteWe found a toad by our swingset a while back. I even got to hold it, it even peed on me! It was a cool experience (to get peed on by a toad, haha!)
ReplyDeleteHi sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteI'm back! Finally :)
Loved catching up with your posts, especially loved seeing the videos of Alaina. So adorable! I go see Daven next Thursday. Can't wait.
Hugs,
Kat
Those toads can hide very well. Those green stick-to-the-front-door-glass frogs really stand out. And they are great bug eaters. My DIL can hardly go through my front door. She hates frogs!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer, dear Mari.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the toad is really a good one - hardly noticed it. Amazing how God put the colors together on it, so it can stay hidden!
Just wanted to drop by to catch up on you, and say hello. I haven't forgotten.
It's been a while since I was here.
Blessings,
Lidia

ReplyDeleteAnyone else have the urge to read "Frog and Toad Are Friends"? ;-D
ReplyDeleteGlad he took care of a few bugs for you.
That toad has better camo then Gander Mountain could ever sell. I am not a toad fan, but I do know they are here for a purpose. Cute from afar!
ReplyDeletewe have a goose, but similar situation. i wondered if he was hurt because he kept hanging around. (i think( he's finally gone
ReplyDeleteI have a bazillion of those little critters in my backyard...and I mean a bazillion. That number tends to be a little creepy. It also tends to give me the heebee-geebees. ugh.
ReplyDeleteHe was probably in a toad-wide "Who can look most like rocks and wood" contest! I hope he won! TG is always yelling for me to trot somewhere with my camera too. So funny. BTW Erica and I were taking a walk on a day that had been very rainy a few weeks ago. We were going by this one yard and she looked over and I don't know how she saw it, but there was a very large turtle sitting there. He had so much lichen on his back, he was very hard to see but then, she has those young eagle eyes. Of course I didn't have my camera with me ...
ReplyDeleteYep....they go where it's cooler. My dad had four of them that stayed around in his garden, and my dad was thrilled to share the land as like you said, they eat insects.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing just how well nature and camouflage go 'hand in hand'.
Very camoflaged. A Where's Waldo picture!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I nearly stepped on a frog in the gutter one day while out on our walk. It jumped right in front of us. We screamed, it whizzed. Poor thing. It was just as scared as us!
We had a whole bunch of frogs living in our yard for a couple years but I haven't seen any in a few months. Not sure what happened. May they go north for the winter? :)
