I was in my car recently when something on the radio caught my attention. The disc jockeys were reading cute things that kids had said. One of them was about a little 4 year old boy, who was talking to his Mom. She was telling him how much she loved him and asked him if he knew what that meant. He said he thought he did and said he loved her too, because when she was home, it made his heart happy!
I thought that was a pretty cute explanation, but it also made me think about the way we make the people around us feel. Do we make their hearts happy with the way we act? Does the way we do our jobs bring a smile to our co-workers faces? Do we add joy to the lives of our families or do we take away their smiles? And - does our own happy heart show on our face?
"A joyful heart makes a cheerful face." Proverbs 15:13

You are so right, a smile and gentle touch, a word of encouragement can make someones day so much brighter.
ReplyDeleteI just love this post, Mari.
ReplyDeleteWe just love to be around people who make us feel good, loved, and accepted...

reading your blog always makes my heart happy!
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts...... makes one look inside one self. A good thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAw. I know little kids' hearts hurt when their mommies aren't with them. My heart used to sink when my mom went to work, or wasn't home yet when we got home from school. Our decisions and our actions, no matter how seemingly inconsequential, do matter! More than we'll ever know.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Mari. I'm quiet sure you make lots of people happy, including me.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kat
Yes indeed....the way we make our surroundings is purely the way we live our lives. And your Biblical quote is perfect for the day's beginning.

Needed to be reminded of that today! I know how my heart feels when someone 'makes it happy' just by being who they are - but whether my joyful disposition also contributes to give others a happy heart is still something I need to work on.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was a child, I was always happy when mom was home so I identified with that little boy.
ReplyDeleteI know that you make the people around you feel special and I think that adds to your being a great nurse! You are very kind and caring.
this is something to ponder! it's hard to have a happy heart when everything seems to be crashing around you while you are standing in quick sand though.
