Friday morning, my daughters Laura, Heather and I left bright and early to travel across Michigan. Our destination? Ikea!
It took us about 2 1/2 hours to get there, but was so worth the drive!
Along with the fun of shopping, was the chance to meet a blogging friend! Kayren, of Everything's Coming up Daisies, lives near this Ikea. She has tormented me for a few years with her stories of the great things she has purchased there! She and her husband Robert met us for lunch, then Robert went off on his own while we did some shopping.
Kayren is a sweetie and lots of fun too. The things I could tell you about her! (But I promised I wouldn't)

It was quite a hassle getting our purchases carried up to the hotel room that night. We had fun sorting and packing everything up. Here you see Laura with some of her great deals. Heather is in the background.
We actually ended up going back for a few things in the morning, before heading home.

This is what an SUV looks like after 3 women spend a day at Ikea. It took some creative packing to fit it all in!
This is Heather's big purchase. She wanted a chair that she could relax in, and do some reading in her room. It is really comfortable. She got the pillow and throw there too.
I didn't buy anything big, but got some great deals on pillows, towels and some assorted kitchen things. This glass bowl cost $3.49 and the stainless steel utensils cost $4.99.
Laura said that shopping there has ruined her for shopping elsewhere. The prices are wonderful!
We got such great deals, had a great time meeting Kayren and Robert and had a lot of fun together. It was a winning weekend!
Looks like your trip was a success in so many ways. I have yet to meet a blogging friend in person except the ones I already know. So glad you had fun. Now, what could SHE tell us about YOU???? : ) Blessings, Mari!
ReplyDeleteMari,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Heather's chair. I can see using that for my computer at my desk instead of your typical one any day. This is just reminding me I really need to make a trip.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
You got the bowl when you went back! You'll have to show off all of Oliver's goodies in a separate post. That cat made out like a bandit. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my "they put me in my happy place" vases.
ReplyDeletehow fun!! so glad you all found great deals. I have never been to an IKEA, but now more than ever, I would LOVE to go!!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorit 4-letter words!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for ours to open later this year. Did you end up having some cinnamon rolls or Swedish meatballs?
I love Ikea as well. The closest one to me is about two hours away so I don't get a chance to shop there too often. Too bad they don't have clothes there. I would be loving it for sure!!!
ReplyDeleteYou all had some great purchases. I also love the chair. It looks really comfortable.
So glad you got to meet a blogging friend. That's neat!
Now this is MY kinda travel....a shopping trip. I so understand what is meant by spoiling all other shopping...with those prices and the fun....never wanna go anywhere else after a day like you ladies had.
ReplyDeleteSecrets? And you're not gonna tell us about Karen...bummer....party pooper!!
Kayren....sorry.
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing so much about Ikea. I wish we had one nearby.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! I'll have to check into this trip for a sisters weekend w/my sis's.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such fun!
ReplyDeleteA whole day spent with your girls - can't beat that.
You also got some nice items. I love the chair.
sounds like a fun and productive shopping trip!! :)
ReplyDeletesomeday, someday i'll make it to the famous ikea store. although i'm afraid of what the back of my car would look like if i did! great finds and what a sweet visit w/ your blog friend!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what IKEA was. Now I know.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to an Ikea. But it sure looks like fun!!
ReplyDeleteHappy WITH you and FOR you! It looks like it added up to a great memory!
ReplyDeleteYou DID get some really sweet stuff. Heather's chair looks very comfortable. I love your utensils and dish. I wish we had a store around here.
ReplyDeleteOH, I'm so bummed I couldn't make it! Next time you go...let me know, I WILL BE THERE!
ReplyDeleteMy grandson has the same chair, in fact, I think his entire house is furnished from Ikea! I'm afraid to sit in that chair..I'm not sure I could get out of it!
Glad you guys had such a great time. Maybe I'll go tomorrow.
Heather will LOVE her chair. I love mine and went back to get the foot stool that goes with it. Lindsey has two of them and Alicia is getting one very soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time with your girls.
What a fun trip. There's no IKEA close to where I live. I do get to one when I visit my sisters in the Dallas area...they both live just miles from the IKEA store and never go!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Jane
WOW you guys made out but good!!!!
ReplyDeleteHeather bought exactly the same Poang chair that we have two of! :-) LOVE my Poang chairs! Don't love the natural color chair covers though -- altho the covers are washable, they're a hassle getting on and off so I'm making new chair covers with a dark hides-the-dirt fabric :-)
ReplyDeleteIKEA is my favorite store!!! I can totally believe you had to go back "for just a few more things". LOL
we had that same chair for YEARS and YEARS !! loved it !!!
ReplyDeleteps ... i'm a teensy bit jealous that you and kayren got to meet ! AND at Ikea !! :)
Ooooooooooooo IKEA!!!! We don't have one in Vegas (which I think is completely lame, btw) but there is one in California. I remember years ago we got in the car and made a day trip of going there! lol We didn't get anything big either, but did get a lot of great deals on a bunch of small things.
ReplyDeleteSo great you got to meet your bloggy friend! That's so cool!
~melody~
Hello Mari, this is Karen in NZ! It's so lovely to hear from you and I have been thinking of you - often. Your hair looks lovely in this pic! and Ikea - well we don't have one in NZ - have to go to Australia for that.
ReplyDeleteHow is your daughter doing? I read a few posts back that she'd had some real health concerns.
How is your hubby doing too? Is he keeping well?
What a great haul! I'm sure you ladies had a blast shopping!
ReplyDeleteThat chair pic reminded me of my own. I had a pillow and a throw too to make it super comfy when I read. Hehee...
