This weekend at work, a few of us were looking at some sales fliers during our lunch break and we saw a drink tablet that reminded us of these:
Do you remember Fizzies? They were a tablet you added to a cup of water, which would make a sort of carbonated drink. My mom would put them in our lunches for a treat sometimes. There were a few different flavors and my favorite was root beer.
After thinking of Fizzies, we started talking about some other things we enjoyed as kids that are no longer around.
After thinking of Fizzies, we started talking about some other things we enjoyed as kids that are no longer around.
Candy Cigarettes! What were they thinking? I guess this really shows how things have changed, as this would never be sold now. We thought they were pretty neat back then.
Believe it or not they STILL sell candy cigarettes!
ReplyDeleteI remember the first two items. but not the last two. I thought the candied cigarettes were neat as a child, but when I got older and tried them again, I thought they were boring.
ReplyDeleteI never have liked carbonation except for maybe in vanilla ice-cream for a float during puberty. Besides then, I've never liked anything carbonated.
In fact, I prefer buying Sprite just to leave on opened on top of the fridge. I love it flat with a bit of grenadine and orange juice.
My point is. I never liked Fizzies. But I thought it was fun to watch the tablets dissolve!
Mari,
ReplyDeleteOh what a fun post this would make bringing back the nostaglia of our days. I have had all of these and share them with my kids as well. My youngest thinks those wax bottles are simply amazing.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
I remember the candy cigarettes and the wax bottles, but not the other two. I've never heard of the fizzies or even anything like them. They sound like Alka-Selzer! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my yes...for all of em. Although most of them weren't my favorites...I do remember them. What fun memories.
ReplyDeleteI remember all of these. There was a corner grocery store a block from my house when I was growing up. They had a big candy counter under glass. I remember getting candy necklaces there.
ReplyDeleteJane
Beemans and Clove gum- yep. Fizzies, not so much. Remember wax bottles, but not liking them.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty much a straight up Good N Plenty gal.
I didn't see my old favorite. But most people hated them. We could only get them at the drug store. They were supposed to make your breath smell good, or at least, better.

I see the candy cigarettes every time we go to the candy store in pentwater.
ReplyDeleteI just bought some Clove gum in Indiana. I still loved it!!
I don't remember the first - but loved the rest and we have a 5 & 10 store in town that stillsells them.
ReplyDeleteYou can buy the gum at Cracker Barrell as well.
My grandmother always chewed Teaberry gum.
I remember many of those items. It is funny how they used to fly off the shelves back in those days.
ReplyDeleteDon't remember the Fizzies, but remember all the other ones!!!
ReplyDeletethe candy cigs i've seen theses days are now marketed as "candy sticks" but are pretty much the same thing. my niece got some for valentine's day.
ReplyDeleteI remember all of them. I had forgotten about those fizzies. My favorite was the root beer. That has been a long time ago. Thanks for the little trip down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteI saw the ad for fizzies and was so excited too! I used to LOVE them! I am going to look for them in the store and try them for myself. I liked candy cigarettes too and the Beemans gum - still reminds me of Grandpa too.
ReplyDeleteI remember all of those and more! For some reason the manual typewriters come to mind, and trying to get rid of a typo caused you to rub a whole in the paper from erasing! I also remember using carbon paper to make duplicates..what a mess!
ReplyDeleteI remember the cokes and the ciggies you can still get those here at our pharmacy - annie can "smoke' 2 packs a day easily!!
ReplyDeleteLove them, too!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were kids my parents used to stop at a gas station on the way to the beach. They had a fudgesicle type thing called a "Cho-Cho". My brother and I still talk about that being our favorite treat!
I never tasted any of them, but I remember them. Maybe by that time I was an adult I didn't feel the need to buy them.
ReplyDeleteI remember buying these candies for my kids. Also remember Cracker Jacks with the prize inside. When I was a kid my parents raised turkeys. The feed came in color and patterned sacks. My Aunt and I would go right in the back of the truck and pick out the bags we liked. My Aunt made curtains and other things out of them. They really were quite pretty.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the wax lips? I can't believe we used to chew on all that wax. The thought of that now sounds really gross but I remember chewing it until all the taste was out of it like gum.
ReplyDeleteSmiles!
BTW-I never seen the fizzies before but I am sure I would have loved them!
Faygo Red Pop!
ReplyDeleteR.C. Cola
Candy necklaces (still sell those I'm pretty sure)
Root beer flavored candies shaped like tiny barrels
White Castle burgers (still around?)
I remember them all. My favorite country store still sells those wax bottles. Destiny thinks they're awesome.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember homemade root beer? It's the only kind we ever had, and I loved it! Along with the homemade vanilla ice cream. Yummmmm.
My mom, who died many years ago when I was seventeen, chewed Beeman's gum. I loved it, and will still occasionaly pick up a pack at Cracker Barrel. It always reminds me of her.
ReplyDeleteHi Mari,
ReplyDeleteThough we live in different countries and have differente memories, I remember that we loved candy cigarettes!
I used to be so jealous over my friend whose Mom & Dad put fizzies in her lunch. That was not one of our household luxuries! Oh my, the flood of memories! : )
ReplyDeleteHere is mine, Mari....
