Ouch!

Thursday afternoon, after a long day at work, I was just heading home. Then I got the call. You know - the one every parent dreads. "Mom, we were in an accident". "We're all right, but can you come pick us up?"
Heather had been out with her friend Melissa and on their way home, they were hit in an intersection by someone who ran the stop sign. The girl who hit them was on her way to her own high school graduation.
.

The green car is Melissa's. When I arrived and saw the damage, I realized how blessed we were that the girls were all right. The driver of the other car wasn't hurt either.
.
This is the passenger door. There were pieces of glass all over the car.
.

Here are Heather and Melissa trying to keep warm while waiting for the police and wreckers to do their work. At this point they were able to smile again.

.
Melissa's car was damaged on all sides, and I'm sure will be totaled. This is the back rear tire.
Both girls had some cuts from the glass, along with bumps and bruises. Heather had to pick glass out of her clothing when she took a shower tonight. Melissa got the worst of it, as she took the impact on the side.
As Melissa's Dad said - cars can be replaced, the girls could not be. We are so thankful for God's protection today.

  2. Praise God that the girls weren't hurt. This could have been a disaster. I believe angels were watching over all of them and am glad they were keeping warm and smiling.

I remember when my daughter was in an accident with our pickup. The elderly lady was hurt really bad and we kept in touch with her husband to be sure she was getting along okay. Michelle thought I'd be furious because the truck was totalled, but vehicles can be replaced...people cannot.

    Glad all is well.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  3. Wow!! Those cars look really bad. So glad the girls are okay.

I remember when Lisa had her first accident after school one day. My friend came upon the accident and called me. The first thing she said was, "Your daughter is alright." Then she told me that she had been in an accident. Later I realized what great psychology she had used by putting those two sentences in that order!

  10. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!!! This is a mother's nightmare. To be sure.

A happy ending that the girls were unharmed, but oh....let me tell you, now the insurance will go up even more. But, again...the girls are okay. That is what counts.

    How horrific.

  11. That really is the worst of all phone calls to get. I'm so glad everyone is ok. The same thing happened to my daughter, a tow truck ran a stop sign and totalled her car too. She was fine, but couldn't get over the fact that she just paid it off and now it's trash!! Turns out our insurance gave her a really good, more then fair pay off. God is good in all types of "bad" situations.

  16. I am so glad they are alright. That phone call is a dreaded one for sure, I had it a couple of months back, thankfully all that was hurt in my son's accident was the car (fixable) & his pride.

  32. Oh, Mari, I'm so sorry I haven't been around (been kind of busy; long story) and did not see this till now. I know exactly how you feel, as two weeks ago (May 14) I got the same call from Andrew.

A 61-y-o lady crossed the center line of a two-lane road and collided head-on with the heavy-duty work truck in which Andrew was the passenger. Andrew had to jump out of the passenger window b/c his door would not open. He ran to the lady and when he went to feel for her pulse, she was barely hanging on. She had passed away by the time the rescuers arrived a few minutes later.

Paramedics speculate the lady suffered a heart attack while driving. She was 1/4 mile from her driveway. Andrew and his buddy, who were enroute from one job to another (trimming trees), were banged up a little bit but nothing serious.

Luckily all were wearing seatbelts as I feel sure the boys would have been killed. Even fully restrained, their heads broke the truck's windshield. The lady's car was demolished and her corpse was trapped inside for over an hour. Andrew and John had to watch as they extricated her and placed the remains into a body bag.

VERY sobering and potentially life-changing! Life is fragile and short (the earthly part, at least!)

I am so glad the girls were unhurt and able to smile! God is indeed present in all our endeavors.
