Memorial Day

I saw this on Mike's blog and thought it portrayed the reason for this day well. Here's what he had to say about it:
.
"Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.
Remember Freedom is not free, some one paid for it with their lives. If you can read this, Thank a Teacher. Since You have the freedom to read this,Thank a Veteran.

  10. Wonderful thoughts Mari- I really love his. It's such a perfect example of why we have this holiday. Too often I think people get caught up in taking vacations or having their day off work. Holidays are more than that! Thanks for the lovely reminder!

  12. Memorial Day is the day my family pauses to remember the sacrifice my Papaw's brother made at normandy beach June 6, 1941. He died without a wife of children to remember him, but Mr. Right and I have pledged to tell any future children about him and make sure they pass along his story to their children.

  13. That cartoon really say's it all. I don't think you could find anyone in the US that doesn't or didn't have a loved one in the service. This day should be very important to EVERY American. I thank God for this beautiful USA and those who have served to protect it!
