We have cable tv and have been noticing our bill has been creeping up. We had talked about cutting something out to use that money for more important things. One of the things we had on cable was the HBO/movie tier. It had been offered to us for a minimal amount but the price had gone up and we never watched it. So - I called the cable company and instead of just asking to have that removed, I told him I was looking for ways to reduce my bill and asked what kind of deals or packages they were offering. After he went through a few things, I asked about one package and what the price would be without the HBO/movie tier. I was thrilled with the response. Our bill was cut by a third but we got more services. We now get the Family channels (DYI for me and the military channel for Bob) and they also threw in a DVR.
The lesson I learned is that it doesn't hurt to call these companies and ask for a better deal!
Good for you, it's always good to save a few of those hard earned $
ReplyDeleteCustomer Service. Gotta love it!
ReplyDeleteWe do that every few months, too. They almost always put us on a special rate plan.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I make my dh call because I'm a wimp. ;-)
It's amazing what you can get when you just ask. I need to give them a call. thanks :)
ReplyDeleteya my husband always says, "if you don't ask you don't know"...meaning he always looks for deals!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a GREAT deal!!!
Wow that great Mari! I wonder what deals they give to people with just basic cable!
ReplyDeleteWe always do that! I'm glad you did the same.
ReplyDelete*high five* for saving money!
ReplyDeleteI get aggravated when you call companies and they tell you that the promotional pricing is for *new* customers only.....what about rewarding the loyal current customers!?
That's great and you're going to love the DVR!
ReplyDeleteexcellent! :)
ReplyDeletea DVR is on my "shiny pretty new toys i want" list. :P
LOVE!!! the DVR! And we always ask for the family tier and no paid movie tier...something we learned moving around, and with kids there's too much on there we didn't want them to see and it was kind of a pain to block (we'd forget the codes!). You might get that On Demand with your DVR and if you do you get lots of free movies with it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I found out (by moving around so much) that if you call about every year or so they actually change the plans around and you can usually get a better deal. Not by as much as yours was, but by a few dollars.
Hmmm ... I'll have to do a bit of calling around too ! :)
ReplyDeleteThat certainly is a great idea! We had our dish completely removed because we do not watch TV any more. We get everything on the computer.
ReplyDeleteWay to go! We have the HBO movie tier and have been debating on getting rid of it also to save money. I usually call every 6 months to see what deals are going on. Enjoy those new channel!
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion, I'm calling tomorrow. We have Dish Newtwork at the cottage which I shut off during the winter months. When I called to turn it back on this week, it amazingly had dropped $1O per month. What gets me is that you always have to be the one to ask...they never offer!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that worked out well for you. My husband has called the phone company, the cable company and credit card companies. He does manage to get rates lowered at times, and sometimes a side perk or two. It's definitely worth a call.
ReplyDeleteI need to do this.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's great! Not many people think to call and ask. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI may have to pass this on to my husband! Our cable bill keeps rising as well....in this economy every little bit helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful tip!
Good for you. After Dick lost his job we called our newspaper company to see what it would cost to get just the Sunday paper, plus E-editions. We had been paying $19.50 per month for newspaper delivery 7 days a week and E-editions. Instead of switching us to just Sunday delivery, they kept our service the same, but changed our monthly bill to $12.60!
ReplyDeleteIt's always great to cut down and then get more. I just love it when that happens....Kae
