A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)
I saw this quote on Ask Kari and Kisja a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny. I've known a few people like that though - people that can always find something to complain about! A few days ago it was such a beautiful day here, with temperatures at almost 70 degrees. I was out walking and I came to a house where the man was working in his yard. As I passed him I said "Hi" and "isn't it beautiful today?" The response I got was "how long will this last before it goes back to being cold?" I thought it was sad that he wasn't enjoying this day but looking ahead to the cold that would be returning.
I can't say I'm always positive and never let things get me down, but it is something to work at. I think as Christians we have more reason than anyone to be positive and live joyfully. That doesn't mean we should be unrealistic, but usually if there is a problem in your life you will see a way that God is taking care of you at the same time.
So, this is a reminder to myself and anyone else who needs to hear it - a positive attitude goes a long way toward having a good day!
And you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar...how right you are.
ReplyDeleteHere, here, Kae
ReplyDeleteBy nature, I am a positive person, but lately, with violent crime increasing every day here in Portugal, I feel scared and not at all positive. But I'm trying hard to remind every day that there is no reason to feel like that because I trust in God.
ReplyDeleteThis is all so true. I find myself letting negative things slip out even though I know God is in charge of everything. Guess it's just human nature. I need to work harder at that!
ReplyDeleteThis is so very true. Can I send this post to the media ????? :)
ReplyDeletemy father can be like that...he'd waited his entire referee career to call a state championship game - and when the time came, rather than being thankful and joyful, he worried about what kind of job he did.
ReplyDeleteits very sad.
Very good point. Too many negative people in the world. I try to limit my exposure to them because it will just bring you down.
ReplyDeletePS - could be why I dont' watch the news....

ReplyDeleteSometimes I really have to check myself about being negative. I think it helps a lot to come from a positive family, but ultimately you are the one in control of your own attitude. Thanks for the reminder!!
ReplyDeleteI know people who always see the negative side of things. I'm trying to keep the positive energy up in my house all the time. I think a positive attitude does wonders for the spirit and general harmony of the home. I know that some days it is harder than others!! Enjoy your Friday :)
ReplyDeleteYou must be reading my mind. Here in Michigan, we had a couple of what I call "Gift Days" -- when the temperature was warm enough to ride bikes in a lightweight sweater. Regardless, like you, I heard a few complainers reminding everyone that "the good weather won't last." Hey, I'll take what i can get!
ReplyDeleteWith three boys who are often bickering or complaining about their chores, I've begun to adress the "drag" head-on.
ReplyDelete"Hey, go put that attitude away in your bedroom and see if you can find a better one. I'm in the mood for some fun!"
Sometimes it only gets me a groan. But sometimes it actually brings a (half smile) up from the depths. :)
We all need those reminders on occasion!! Thanks!
You are so right Mari. I have found myself lately being like that neighbor rather than being positive and promised myself I am going to work on it!
ReplyDeleteWell, yes, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar ... but who wants flies?
ReplyDeleteLOL
I tend to be negative ... and positive! I call myself the most optimistic pessimist/pessimistic optimist you'll ever meet.'
Hey ... I may be cancelling myself out!
Thanks for the reminder to look on the bright side of everything, Mari!
half full, mari. great post!!
ReplyDeletehalf full, mari. great post!!
ReplyDeleteThere are people who see the world, and their glass, 1/2 empty and then there are those who see it 1/2 full. You are definitely a 1/2 full person. Such a better way to be!!!!
ReplyDeleteSusan
I did need that reminder today. Even tho' I lean towards the half-full glass, there are times a kick in the hiney is appropriate!
ReplyDeleteI am still rolling around on the floor with laughter at JenniferW's comment! She is the funniest person I have met for a while.
ReplyDeleteThe Joy of the Lord is our strength.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great reminder:)
You are so right I like to smile alot so people wonder what I'm thinking??
ReplyDeleteI love that quote, and the advice! Thanks Mari!
ReplyDeleteGreat quote! I know that I could certainly stand to be more positive. Much more. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWell said. This is just what I needed. I have to stay positive, and you're right...Michigan is number one for unemployment.
ReplyDeleteSpring just started and he is already dreading winter?
ReplyDeletethe old men that used to come in for coffee at the store I worked in used to drive me crazy. They would sit and talk, complain about the cold and snow. Then come summer they would whine it was too hot and not enough rain. Blah blah blah. They were such spirit busters some times. I learned to tune them out
We've never met IRL, but I would have DEFINITELY pegged you as a positive person. Nice reminder...
