Works for me Wednesday

It's time for Works for me Wednesday. Since we've been doing a little painting at our house, I thought I would share a painting tip with you. Often when I am painting, I have to paint more than one coat of paint and I have to stop to let the first coat dry, or I get interrupted and can't finish. I hate to clean everything out, just to come back and start over. Here's what I do:

I put both my roller and brush in a plastic bag. I wrap the end of the bag tightly and I usually put a rubber band around it so no air can get into it. When it's time to start again, I take the bag off and I'm ready to go. This has saved me quite a bit of time, and also money because I don't have to throw those disposable rollers away as often.

  2. Yup! I did that today! Only I have stopped and started so many times that I started using Saran wrap.

  3. What a great tip! But I can't tell from the roller or brush what color you painted the dining room...and you aren't telling still. I'm excited to see the pictures as your remodel continues.

  4. So you made it through your long stretch at work, and now it's time for home projects. I like being able to do that, go back and forth between home and work, breaks up the monotony, I think. I have a love/hate relationship with painting. On the one hand, it's almost instant gratification, and on the other hand, in some ways, it can be a pain. Usually, it's relaxing for me, turn on some golden oldies and get lost in it. It's a good thing.

  5. what a good idea. i sometimes use foil...that works too, but i think the plastic bag would be less messy!

  8. Mari,

I do the same thing and it really does work. Another tip is to buy rollers, brushes and trays at the dollar store. They are cheap, last just as well and can be thrown away and new ones purchased without spending a fortune.

I have given the wall unit that the tenant left three coats of paint and still have to give it another. That's what I get for changing the color from black to white, but black would have made our living room too dark. I wanted to put a primer on it, but the neighbor talked me out of it one day when she was helping out. I should have listened to my instincts.

I look forward to seeing some photos when your redecorating is done. Have a great day.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  9. I use the saran wrap or some form of that and then if it might be a few days, put the paint brush in the fridge. It stays like you were just painting.

  12. I tried that last year - but it didn't seem to work for me - perhaps the baggie wasn't tight enough!
    Sweet blessings!
