Surprise!

We had such fun on Friday night. We had a surprise birthday party for Bob. He will be turning 50 on June 9, but we wanted to have the party while Andy was home. It was more of a surprise this way too! We told him that we were planning an open house for Andy on Saturday evening, but that we were going to set up on Friday night. We even made up a fake invitation for the supposed open house and had it hanging on the refrigerator. He never suspected a thing and was really shocked to walk into that room of people yelling "Surprise"!

This is the front of the invitation we sent out. Wasn't he a cute little thing?

Here he is - realizing we had gotten him good!

We had a lot of fun going through old pictures to set up. We also put out several of his carvings.

Laura made up these flower arrangements to set on the tables and some other ones for the food table. We wanted it to be cheery, so everything was decorated in bright blue and green, with orange accents.

Here are some of the family and friends who came. We had salad, lasagna and bread sticks and of course some birthday cake!

This is one of many family pictures we took. This is Bob's Mom with our kids.

Bob did give me a good scare last week when he told me his schedule had changed and he had to work on Friday evening. I called his boss and explained what I was planning and he changed the schedule again. It was a relief to pull it off and not have any other slips! We all enjoyed it, especially Bob and it was wonderful to have Andy there to enjoy it with us.

  3. That sounds like lots of fun! One year my mom planned a surprise party for my dad and he scheduled house visitations for that day (he was an elder at the time). She called the guy he was going with to tell him it wouldn't work so he found someone else but then the guy told my dad he had found someone else and my dad told him he could go and the guy thought maybe something had changed so my dad ended up leaving his own party to go do the house visitations.

Glad you all had a great time and that Andy could be there with the whole family to enjoy.

  23. What fun! Brings back memories of my surprise for Dick on his 50th. I even arranged for him to have the next day off work (behind his back) and took him to a hotel after the party - in the middle of the week!!! Now in two years I'll have to think how to outdo that one when he celebrates his 60th!
