First flowers of Spring!

Here are the first flowers that are blooming in our yard. This is a little fence section that is near our driveway. These little crocuses are so cheerful and such a happy sign of Spring. This picture was taken in the afternoon so they aren't open are far as they are earlier in the day, but they still make me happy to see them!
This is a small picture of the front lawn. Do you think we have some work ahead of us? Our whole front yard looks like this. We have 7 oak trees in the front yard so we always have a lot of acorns but this year there are quite a few more than normal. There is an old thought that says if there are lots of acorns falling, it will be a bad winter. I guess this winter proved that saying right!

  2. Love the flowers. I have a lot of green showing too and some purple flowers blooming. Not sure what they are, but they are nice looking like yours. Yes, lots of acorns are sign of long winter. Which we did have for sure.

  6. I love your little flowers, Mari, and I like the little white fence that forms the perfect backdrop.

We don't have deciduous trees in our yard, well, I take that back because we do have a small one in the front yard, but our neighbors have them. Some that have the oak trees have bought a nut picker upper and they pick up barrels of nuts in the fall.

Have you ever seen a nut picker upper? I think they paid $40 for it but it saved their backs from bending over. It has a long handle like a rake, but on the end is a wire ball. When the ball is rolled over the ground, the nuts go inside. I know that they have worn out two of these pickers. I guess their tree produces well.

I have heard that saying before. It is God's way of taking care of the squirrels.

  15. I think most of us here in Mich have a bunch of clean up ahead of us. My yard looks pretty close to yours with all the twigs & acorns... Nice flowers, I have only a couple of crocus peeking up

  17. Love your flowers Mari!

But oh do I feel your pain when I see your dirt ground covered with acorns. We don't have the acorns but the same dirt and ick!

Please tell me that you have a tire swing in one of those oak trees you have on your property!

7 oak trees. WOW, that's awesome. It seems like they cut all the trees down anymore.
