It's Thursday and time for another slow cooker recipe. This is a fun pizza sandwich that has gone over well at my house.
Pizza by the Yard
1-2 pounds Italian sausage (depending on how meaty you want this), browned and drained
1 26 oz jar pasta sauce; may be plain or pick the flavor you like - we like garlic.
2 large red or green peppers, chopped
1 1 pound loaf Italian bread, split lengthwise and toasted*
1 8 ounce package shredded pizza cheese
In a 3 1/2 or 4 quart slow cooker combine sausage, pasta sauce and pepper. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 2 1/2 -3 hours. Spoon mix over toasted bread. Sprinkle with cheese.
*To toast bread, place bread, cut side up, on a baking sheet. Broil 3-4 inches from heat for 3-4 minutes or until toasted.

Thanks for stopping by.....hope to see you again. :) I love crockpot recipes!! We live in Japan and we do not have an oven, like most Japanese homes. It took me years to realize that I could live without one too.
ReplyDeleteThis looks soooo good...I am such a slow-cooker-girl and I am always looking for new recipes.
ReplyDeleteSounds really good, I think Ray would even like this sandwich.
ReplyDeleteDid you start cooking all new meals after Andy and I left? Because I've never had this or a lot of the ones you post. I think we got jipped.
ReplyDeleteLaura - you have been gone for a year and a half. You know I am always trying new things! However - I have made this for some time. You just were never home to eat it!

ReplyDeleteI do all of my cooking on a gas stove top. We hardly miss an oven now, except for when Birthdays come around---it would be nice to be able to bake a cake!! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay - YUM!!! I use my crock pot at least once a week and love new recipes, so I'm all over this one!! Score!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mari!! Btw - I'm guessing this might make an appearance next time you have your daughter over for dinner, huh? :)
I've only recently discovered your blog but already you bring me a smile - see I have given you an award...see my post.
ReplyDeleteMari! It's Ginger! Can you believe this small world? I have been blogging for a year and a half and just met Short Stop. Up until this point everyone that I blog with is from everywhere but Michigan. Now I find out Short Stop Sarah is from right here in Grville and then you pop up! How cool! I thought it was you right away, but it took me a bit to make sure...the wedding photo gave it away :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving a comment on my blog. It was so sweet of you..same old Mari!
