Warning - this post may disgust you!
Unlike my friend Nancy, I do not like bugs. I cannot remember a time when I did like bugs. I don't think I even tolerate them. I know that God created them and they must have a purpose, but I don't think their purpose has anything to do with being in my house. You can then imagine my distress over the past week when I began to notice earwigs in the house. Now, every year we see a few in the summer, but this year I think they are out to get me. I usually find a few downstairs or in the bathroom, but this year there are more and I have even found them in the kitchen. I think this disdain of earwigs must go back in time because when I looked up earwig in wikipedia, I found that the reason they have the name they do is because people used to believe they would burrow in their ears and lay eggs in their brains!!! Now that is a disgusting thought. It also said that they usually stay outside, but when it is quite hot and the weather has been dry, they are likely to come in. Well, they may be surprised by my lack of hospitality, but I am not inviting them in. After hearing me comment about these disgusting bugs over the weekend, Bob and Andy went to work. Andy put something around the outside of the house to kill them and when Bob came home from work, he had something to put in the doorways and basement windows that is supposed to put down a barrier they don't like to cross, I sure hope it works!
You may not believe this but there are only 3 kinds of bugs that I don't like so much & earwigs are on the top of that list, so I feel your pain....
ReplyDeleteI agree that God put them here for a reason but I haven't found any good reason in my house either! My motto on bugs is "leave them alone, but if they cross our threshhold, they're dead!" I've had it already when sunning on a lawn chair that they've pinched me! What did I do to them?? Right now, they're my least favorite bug and I'm hoping we don't get to experience anything worse than earwigs in Haiti in about 5 1/2 weeks!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain- I'm struggling with ants right now. I do agree that I'd rather have ants than earwigs though.
ReplyDeleteI have done traps all over and am sweeping my floor numerous times a day for some reason I always have crumbs on my floor....oh yeah I have small kids!!
Oh I am sooo with you! Earwigs are the grossest bugs. We have tons and tons of ants, but I'll take them over earwigs. They are really digusting creatures. Ants seem to die pretty peacefully when you pick them up in the kleenex, but earwigs always crunch or write around wiggling and it's so awful! Hopefully your barriers will work!
ReplyDeletewe were just talking about them last week camping, ali had seen one in her trailer and thought it would get in her ear!
