Spring Flooding

I mentioned last week that we had to do our egg hunt in the garage because of all the rain we've been getting. The rain has continued, causing flooding on the Grand River which is about 2 miles from our home.  We're far enough away and high enough that we aren't at risk. We went down to the park near us, and took a little drive along the river and I'll show you how things looked.

Usually you can walk under the bridge, but as you can see the sidewalk is covered with water.

This is a drive where people can back up their boats and kayaks to get onto the river, but as you can see, the drive is flooded and no trucks will be unloading boats.

What is that out in the water?  It's the top of a picnic table!  You can see the tree behind it which is usually on the riverbank.

As we drove along the river, we came to this area. The actual river is way in the back. The front area is usually home to cows, but now it's a lake.

This is another park near our home that is very flooded. There are trails by this bridge that we often walk on.

Here's that same bridge a few years ago...

The ducks don't mind all the water!

These poor people have a barn full of water. If you look at the doorway, you can see chairs sitting in the water.

And here's a road we came to that was impassable.

Thankfully, the water is starting to go down.  I wish we could share this with some of you who've been praying for rain in your areas!

  1. Dear Mari, sad about the flooding. Lovely photos. We get this type of flooding here in Quebec as well. I have also seen picnic tables submerged in water.
It is always a relief to see the water go back to normal level.

  2. We get spring flooding here, too when we get spring rain mixed with the snow melt making a perfect storm. That river reminds me of our local river, the Sacramento. Great pictures though.

  5. Fortunately, you are not in danger, Marie.
Unfortunately, in other parts of the world there is drought and in others there are floods..
The photos of the bridge before and now are very impressive!!

  6. I am used to flooding because I have spent most of my time along the river Seine. My grandparents house was flooded about twice a year standing close to the river.

  7. Thanks for the pictures, there are sometimes spring floods here in Finland as well. Yesterday it was in the TV news that the water levels in Eastern Finland have dropped due to low rainfall. Suitable rain is hoped for, not too much, not too little.
    Have a nice week!

  8. Wow! That's a lot of water! Yes, I do wish you could send us some for our poor dry Still Waters Pond. I'm glad you are high and dry where you are. I hope not too many people have had their homes flooded there. That is always such a difficult mess to clean up. Stay safe and on the high road!!!

  11. Oh gosh! That looks bad! Thank goodness you are far away and high enough not to be at risk. I really do feel for those that have had their lives disrupted by the flooding.

  12. Oh goodness Mari...that is a lot of water!!! And I'm sure the ground was already saturated from all the snow you all have had. Thankful that your home is high enough to be in danger of the flood. Hoping you all get sunshine today and No rain.

  13. All the streams and rivers around here are high too! There is one area in Hines Park where we love to walk and it's nice when the river is high because the water is flowing so fast!

  15. I was going to ask you to send some down my way! We had some nice rain last week, but not enough. There is no rain in for forecast for this week. Not even a shower. Glad the water is receding and that your home is not in a flood zone!!

  16. I wish you could share that water with us, too, Mari! We are in a drought currently with no foreseeable relief in the near future. Hope everyone was okay and that only property was affected. Blessings!

  17. Oh my goodness, that's a whole lot of rain. Glad you are okay but I feel sorry for those who have been impacted by it. It seems like it is feast or famine where water is concerned.
Thanks for sharing the photos .
    Take care
    Sue

  20. That is a lot of water.
Parts of the UK has seen flooding this winter, it's a shame we cannot get this water to parts of the world that are in drought.

    Keep well and keep safe.

    All the best Jan
