Fun Weekend

We had such a fun time with Alaina and Ruby this weekend. With the busyness over Christmas they haven't been able to come for a bit, so this was overdue. We picked them up after school and then went to Chik-fil-A for supper per their request.
After supper we came home and worked on a little project. I had ordered a few kits to make button highland cows.  Unfortunately, the kits arrived and were just the buttons and some floss - no directions!  So, we had to try to figure it out.

Alaina and Ruby each did them differently, so they turned out unique.

But both are cute!

Then we got out the Wii and played the game of Life, and then watched Despicable Me before heading to bed.

The next morning we had a long craft project to do.  The girls took premade canvas's for paintings and drew flower shapes all over them. Then they took hot glue guns and put glue lines over all the pencil lines.

The next step was gloving up and rubbing a background paint color over the whole front and sides.

While the paint dried, we got the Wii going again.

Wii bowling is a lot of fun, and I do better at this version than the real thing.

We stopped for lunch and then started painting again.

All the little spots inside the glue lines got painted.

The girls were each choosing their colors and painting carefully.

Once that was done, all the glue lines were colored over with a gold Sharpie pen.

Look how cute they turned out!  They kind of look like stained glass.
We played a few more Wii games and then because it had been really snowing and the roads weren't great, Aaron and Laura came to pick them up, so Bob and I could stay warm and cozy at home.

We love spending time with these girls and enjoyed each moment!

  7. the paintings are amazing, I would be happy to hang them on my walls, what a super way to paint.. I might could bowl like that, I did once drive a race car on a Wii at the nursing home where I volunteered, they had one that played golf and other games, and could use it from their wheel chairs... you are the best of all grandmas.

  11. What a fun time you had with your girls! Both of the crafts they did turned out great. I love the way the canvas pictures they did express their different personalities. SO cool! You come up with the neatest crafts for them.
I had to chuckle at your comment about the Wii bowling. I'm the same way. We always do it when we go to Matt's and I'm far better at the Wii version than I am in real life. haha

  21. Posts like these always bring me such joy! And they make me wish on 2 things: 1) that you adopt me and 2) that I will be blessed with grandkids one day. ๐Ÿ˜‰ You always look like you have the best time and do the most clever crafts! If I am blessed with grandkids one day I'll need to hit you up for reminders of all the neat crafts to do. Lol The cows are so cute - but those stained glass looking flowers have my heart!! ๐Ÿ’—
PS: I do way better with wii bowling than regular too๐Ÿ˜‚

  24. Wow! What a fun and beautiful project! I'm going to have to try this sometime, thanks for the suggestion! Our wii system doesn't work well at all anymore, our remotes are about done for! We upgraded to the switch, but my kids would love to play the games they played growing up!

  25. Fun is always to be found at your house!!! LOVE the girls' paintings! Truly beautiful outcomes!!

Some time ago you had the girls putting those caps from acorns onto the old-fashioned style of wood clothes pins, creating hats for the clothespin people I thought that was sooo clever! Often I see those caps on the during my outdoor walks. I love to step on them because they make a really neat crunchy sound (and because I have no old clothespins that need hats!!).
