What's been happening here

Last week I told you about our granddaughter Alaina's visit to the ER.  She's doing well and is scheduled for an ablation on December 15 to take care of this heart issue.

She's had a much better week, and is thrilled with this new addition. This is all she wanted for her birthday, which was at the end of October.  Its name is Sprig and Alaina is thrilled!

Last week I had a nice lunch out with the wife and daughter of a patient I took care of for about a year.  I get to see the daughter frequently as she goes to my church, but it was a treat to see this man's wife again.  We went to an old restaurant in a nearby town which is known for its burgers.  This place has been around for over 100 years and has that old time charm.  The burgers were great!

They have this fun sign up showing what prices used to be.

Today (Monday) is my birthday and I have officially reached Medicare age! I'm not sure where those 65 years have gone!

I have to tell you a funny story that goes along with my increasing age.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and last week I had my 6 month check with the Rheumatologist.  His office is about 45 minutes away.  My appt was scheduled for 10:45, so I was doing some things around the house before I left.  I'm not one to wear shoes at home.  I like to run around in slippers.  Do you know where this is going?
Yes - I hopped in the car, drove to the office and when I got out, I saw this:

Aaaagh!  I still had my slippers on!  It was too far away to go home, so there was nothing to do but go in there in my slippers.  Thankfully, they weren't fuzzy bunny slippers or something like that.  They have a hard sole, so they were fine for walking around outside, but how embarrassing...
He just laughed and said he's seen much worse than that, and that he wouldn't have known they were slippers if I didn't tell him.
I guess this is just keeping me humble.

  1. Dear Mari, I am so glad Alaina had a better week. I love ❤️ your slippers. Whenever I go out and come back home, I always get into my house dress or pajamas and slippers, I like to be comfortable when I am at home.
I love ❤️ seeing that old restaurant menu and prices from days gone by.

  6. I'm so glad that your granddaughter had a much better week. She's in my prayers. Love it that you were able to have lunch out with the wife and daughter of a former patient. I'm sure that made their day, too. And honestly, those slippers are so nice that if you didn't tell us, I wouldn't have thought anything of it.

  8. Happy Birthday Mari! I'm so glad to hear Alaina is doing well. I've been thinking of her since your post last week. I love her new little pet. I'm glad you had a nice lunch out, that is such a cute little place! That's so funny about the slippers, but those could definitely pass as shoes. I hope you have a great birthday! :)

  9. Happy Birthday! You had quite a week already! I am so happy your granddaughter can seek treatment, so scary. And I love the slipper story. When I was working I grabbed a pair of sneakers and put them in a bag when I left for work. I had PT over my lunch hour. When I sat on the first machine I noticed they were from two different pairs. So embarrassing.

  10. Happy birthday and welcome to the ranks of "where have the years gone"!! Those slippers would pass as shoes. I wear a pair of beach shoes as slippers and have worn them out and about by mistake too. The rubber soles work fine so I just pretend I intended to wear them! How nice to see the wife of one of your former patients and to stay in touch with his family. The lunch spot sounds good and the old menu is a fun reminder of how it used to be... not that long ago!! xo

  11. Happy Happy Birthday!!!! And the slippers do kind of look like some kind of clogs. You should see what the people here wear in Wal-Mart!! I am so glad about Alaina!!! Is this a bearded dragon? Can't quite tell. the restaurant looks so cool, straight out of the 50's.

What a nice thing to visit with a former patient and enjoy a great meal besides.
You made me laugh at your slipper story. At least your toes were warm and toasty.
I'm so glad to hear that Alaina is doing well and got the gift of her dreams. Cute name for him too.
    Have a great day

  14. Welcome to age 65. πŸ˜‚ That is so funny about the slippers. My husband did that once and he rarely gets embarrassed but it did make him feel conspicuous which made it all the funnier. Years ago, I left the house to go to my nanny job, wearing two different shoes! That's how I found out the mom and I wore the same size shoes!
I'm glad Alabama has been scheduled for the procedure.

  15. Happy Birthday! I'm approaching my 70th and wonder where the time has gone too. The time sure slips away quickly.
Cute slippers. They look classy. Hey, at least they're not Croc's. 😁 Ugh.
    Happy Thanksgiving! πŸ’—

  18. Glad to hear that Alaina is doing better. I once went to a teacher training in what I like to call my, "pool cleaning shoes". They didn't look as nice as your slippers. lol

  19. Happy 65th Birthday today! I hope you had a wonderful day. LOL on the slipper story! They really don't look like slippers that much to me! And you were comfortable! That's what matters most! I missed the post about Alaina, and I can't seem to find it, but I will definitely keep her in my thoughts and prayers. A lizard??? Wow! She should come here...we have them EVERYWHERE!!!
Thank you for your kind words on my post today about losing Sunshine. It's been a tough day, but I have such sweet memories and am so glad I took so many pictures of him while he was with us. He was a blessing to us in many ways, but I am sure missing him already, and so is Blackie.
I hope you and your loved ones have a blessed Thanksgiving, and Happy Birthday again.

  22. Happy Birthday!! πŸŽ‚ The slipper story is so funny!! My kids have shoes that look just like that...and I'm always asking, are you sure those aren't slippers? Haha. Oh and I'm like you, I never wear my shoes around the house.

  25. Happy Birthday, Mari.
What a sweet photo of your granddaughter. I went back to read about her hospital visit and can imagine how concerning that was to all of you. Glad to see that she is doing better.
I got a kick out of your slipper story. I often see members of the younger generation out in pj bottoms and/or slippers. It used to surprise me, now I've gotten used to it.

  26. Sweet picture of Alaina. She looks happy with her new addition she is golding, but I can't make out what it is. Is it a frog?
Your slipper story gave me a chuckle, but they really could pass for shoes. I've seen several that looked like that while browsing for slip on shoes on Amazon.
