It's Chili Season! We really like chili and I have several different recipes for it; white chicken chili, beef chili - some that are more difficult and time consuming, some that are easy. I recently tried a new one that has a few types of beans and is both sweet and spicy. It was quite easy to throw together and will be added to my rotation of chili recipes.
Sweet and Spicy Chili
2 pounds ground beef, cooked and drained
1 small onion, finely diced
1/2 teaspoon dried garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon thyme
4 tablespoons chili powder
dash of red pepper flakes
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 bay leaves
15 ounces beef stock
15 ounce can tomato sauce
14.5 ounce can petite diced tomatoes
15 ounce can great northern beans, drained
2 - 15 ounces cans dark red kidney beans, drained
Stir all ingredients together in large crock pot. Cook on low for at least 8 hours. Remove bay leaves and serve.
I absolutely love chili and have for as long as I can remember. Thanks for the new recipe. Steve was my chili maker and I can't ever seem to get it as good as what he made.
ReplyDeleteHi Mari. This looks so good, hearty, and healthy. I am going to make it in the slow cooker this week for Sunday dinner! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is the truth - I have been looking for a chili recipe and here it is. A God Wink. I copied it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt looks good. I make quite a bit of Cincinnati Chili, have you heard of it? It is a kind of chili over spaghetti and topped with shredded cheddar.
ReplyDeleteFrom the ingredients (and the photo) I understand that a very tasty and nutritious chili will definitely come out. Thank you Marie.
ReplyDeleteIt looks tasty and must be very good after 8 hours slow cooking. We also have some winter dishes that needs slow cooking, they are the best tasty ones.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks good as I love chili too
ReplyDeleteThis looks perfect for a cold day; another one I'm printing off.
ReplyDeleteGurl...you know that Chili is for sure BIG here in Texas. I do fix it several times during the Winter months. This recipe looks good with all the different kinds of beans....plop a dab of sour cream on it and some cheese and WaLa...the perfect meal. Thanks for sharing as I am adding this recipe to my Chili file.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really good! We love all kinds of beans here at our house, so I will definitely be giving this recipe a try. And the fact that it's made in the crock pot is another plus! Thanks, Mari.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely chilli weather around here...yum!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so close to my brown sugar chili so I know I'd love it! With where we live I don't think we can ever have too many chili recipes, right? Lol xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat looks and sounds delicious!! Thanks for another keeper, Mari!
ReplyDeleteHello Mari,
ReplyDeleteI "found"you😊 On Sandi's blog and that is good. Chili, I am just getting ready to go and make a pot soon. My husband loves chili, I never get tired of reading all the different chili recipes! Do you like your with crackers or cornbread?
This sounds like my go to recipe called "Glop" I put everything in it except the chili flakes. That spice is too hot for Dave.
ReplyDeleteThat tasty dish is perfect for this time of year, though I eat it anytime. It even gets better as a leftover. The flavors blend wonderfully.
Sue
I have some simmering in the crockpot right now!
ReplyDeleteYum! I love me some chili! Good on a cold morning for breakfast too. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteDue to medical reasons, we don't eat beans in this house (I miss them). This chili looks soooo good!
ReplyDeleteI'll be making chili in the next few days.
ReplyDeleteOh, this one sounds good. I love the idea of the brown sugar in it. I bet it is really good. I like using different beans too. Yeah, I might be able to actually eat this chili!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good, I cannot tolerate beans, simply get sick when I eat them, but I can eat around them! I do love a nice spicy bowl of chili, and the brown sugar sounds brilliant! Thank you! (ha, I scan recipes, get ideas, then just make things, most of the time!)
ReplyDeleteSounds so good! I love sweet chili! My favorite, I am ashamed to say, is from Wendy's! And I just discovered last week they sell it in a can now! I don't think I could do the red pepper flakes...I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy stuff! But, this does look good and I bet I could tweak it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so tasty :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Yes, love me a nice hot bowl of chili. Janice
ReplyDeleteSounds good.
ReplyDeleteThis looks very good! I have a recipe for chili that I make frequently. Mine is a less spicy version and it makes a ton. I end up having to freeze some.
