Cooking Thursday

I have the best bread recipe to share with you.  It's one I found several years ago, and it promised a loaf of yeast bread in an hour.  I had to try it, and it's not quite an hour, but mine takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes from start to finish!  And it's good - try it and see!

Best Bread Ever

5 1/4 cups white bread flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 rounded tablespoons fast rising yeast
2 1/2 tablespoons oil
2 cups hot tap water

Mix dry ingredients, add oil and water. Mix for one minute and check consistency. If dough is too dry, add a little water. Dough should be very sticky. Mix for 5 minutes. (Do not add flour to dough after mixing) Spray counter and loaf pans (9x5) with Pam. Shape loafs and place into pans. Cover with dish towel and let rise for about 30 minutes. Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Makes 2 large loaves.

It looks good. I just bought some flour yesterday and hope to make bread soonish. I'll try to remember you have a quick recipe here.

Wow. First of all, the scent of bread baking is one of the pleasures on earth! Secondly, homemade in an hour's time? Incredible.

Thank you, Friend! I will be giving this a try tomorrow! What size loaf pans do you use?

Looks great! I never seem to have fast-rising yeast. I wonder how much extra time it would take for regular yeast? Guess I just need to get to Publix! Thanks for the recipe!

I thought I left a comment earlier but I think I neglected to click a button. :) Guess my not blogging has caught up with me. :) I would like to try this out tomorrow but am wondering what size loaf pans you use.

Perfect timing. I was regretting ditching the bread maker the other day and was looking for a recipe to make without it. Thank you!!

Mari this looks wonderful. Have you seen those silicone pans that are like big bowls that latch at the top? It's called the Lekue Silicone Bread Maker. You make the whole thing in that one bowl, and bake it in there too. I wonder if this recipe would do well in a contraption such as that. I shall have to try it and see. But first I'd better buy one of the contraptions. Meanwhile I will copy this recipe. xoxo
